Inslee meets polar vortex in Iowa, gets $1 million SuperPAC boost

Baby, it's cold out there.

Gov. Jay Inslee met a polar vortex on his first foray into chilly Iowa as a presidential candidate, but also a wind at his back. A so-called "SuperPAC" is launching a $1 million "independent" expenditure to give his campaign some exposure.

Starting Tuesday, Act Now for Climate is spending about $145,000 in Iowa markets, and taking to cable TV networks with the first PAC buy of the 2020 campaign. Its spot delivers a larger-than-life description of the candidate's accomplishments in this Washington:

"Jay Inslee, a governor who transformed his state into a clean energy leader, with a bold vision for our future."

A second piece of good news for Inslee: A fellow progressive, "green" Northwest politician, Sen. Jeff Merkley of Oregon, announced Tuesday that he will not seek the presidency but instead run for re-election next year.
