Pete on the other hand was a little too smug for my taste. The lack of national & international exposure makes him unqualified as of now, no matter how well-spoken he is. His responses last night were good but not spectacular. I would prefer mayor Pete run for Congress first, get his resume beefed up with some national experience at least before he's ready for prime time.

I would add Booker to the list to move on for now. Don't think he's ready yet.

Fri Jun 28, 2019, 09:28 AM
Jun 2019

...he's got 22 times more support. Pete at RCP average of 6.6% is polling at 22x Hickenlooper at .3% and Hickenlooper was not a breakout star such that that's going to change much (if anything) post-debate. In short, I think Hickenlooper has no chance of making an impact on the race, while Pete already has. Your argument is a reasonable one for why you should not vote for him, but it's not a reasonable one for suggesting he drop out, any more than someone saying that Biden should drop out because {insert your criticism here... past his prime, too baggage-laden, too cozy with compromise, whatever}.Ot that Sanders should drop out because he's {too angry, too socialist, whatever}. It's not about whether you like them as candidates, it's whether they have even a long shot chance. And while Pete is a long shot, Hickenlooper is light years away from even that.

...to suggest that someone drop out.

There are people who strongly think Biden is a great choice and people who strongly think he is not. Same with Sanders. Same with Buttigieg. We're not all going to agree on these opinions. But as long as there is a very significant number of people supporting them, and they are making an impact on the race, and they are fundraising successfully, there is no rationale to suggest it is time for them to drop out.

Hickenlooper has minimal support, is making no impact, and at the debate did not exhibit evidence of being able to really change that. Pete has already passed the support and impact thresholds. As, obviously, have Biden and Sanders, along with Warren and Harris. It's too soon for any of them to move on, whether you think they're a good choice for president or not. Hickenlooper is not in that category.

even in 15 years he will still be young but he could have build up his resume. he could be making a name for himself with the trump investigations and maybe he could run for Senate also.

and in 10-15 years he would be taken more seriously as a national candidate. plus he would have build up contacts and a following .

That is a lot of money to be giving away, instead use that money to rebuild infrastructure, better public education, pay teachers a deserving salary, that will promote jobs which is what people want, they don't want giveaways, they want jobs where they can earn a good living. Tax the wealthy appropriately, eliminate the buffoon's tax cuts, use some of that money to keep republicans out of office, etc.

Fri Jun 28, 2019, 09:45 AM

In coal country where the jobs are disappearing and retraining/moving are not likely to happen, such a plan would remove the stigma of "welfare" and the bureaucracy to manage it. Add in health coverage and many of those dying towns could have a chance. Also would apply to farming towns, etc.

In the larger more prosperous areas, the same universal benefits would stimulate the service economy that underpins daily life. Middle income folks would be glad for the help and the truly wealthy wouldn't even know it was there.

Sure, we all know some folks that would just sit back and think they'd made it, but we also know others that came from next to nothing and clawed their way out that could really use the help.

While this is socialism, putting the money in peoples pockets to use as they want would stimulate the capitalist sector. Guess that would be social capitalism in a democratic socialist society.

I also think it's impressive we have such a large, impressive bench. I also think this helps the party: To be seen as loaded with passionate, dedicated candidates. They also help keep important issues at the forefront. Additionally, whoever the general election candidate becomes, we don't want that person to peak this early, and we don't want fatigue: Better to keep the attention on a wider field at this point: It takes some of the heat off our eventual winner.

would ever vote for him in any primary. We and our candidates need to understand that we are one election away from a 6-3 court...desperate times. And my thinking after watching the debates and the media coverage which will help reelect Trump is we better wake up or we may not even keep our Republic. Trump was handed policy gifts last night...I can see the commercials already.

An attack like that - if ever - should be saved for much later in a campaign. For that matter, I thought Harris was hurtfully aggressive; she should have saved it for later, too. She is popular enough now to save some ammunition.

These women and men accomplished some level of awareness to get themselves on a national debate. Whether you like them, agree with them or are turned off by them for whatever reason is fine. But, we will need every voice supporting the eventual nominee.

The fact is, and it IS a fact. When the one or two Presidential debates take place in front of a massive audience tRUMP will do what he has always done. LIE, make up BS facts, claims of success and not only insult the other candidate but make up LIES about their record.

The moderators can not or will not stop him, maybe mildly push back but overall he will PUSH out his lies, bullshit and accusations and a milk toast or "I'm above the fray", opponent will be destroyed, IMO.

So, thank you to all those who got off their asses, hit the campaign trail, made the best case they could for being the Democratic nominee and I hope you will throw your support behind the party nominee with energy, gusto and passion. This is a fight for Democracy and America.

Just Sayin...

Something mighty extraordinary will have to happen for them to make even a ripple at this point.
