Kamala Harris's Secret Weapon: The Sisterhood of Alpha Kappa Alpha

Posted in the Harris 2020 Group by DesertRat

"The moment brought a sense of pride and some apprehension about what Ms. Harris’s campaign would hold.

Younger members said Ms. Harris represented a hope for the future. “She just reminds me to be fearless in the pursuit of my goals,” said Shannon Burge, 31, a Denver sales manager.

For Denine Bratcher, 50, who was attending the conference from Germany, Ms. Harris’s emergence as a presidential contender isn’t the least bit surprising.

“We are women who are pioneers. We’re making strides, making waves for the future,” said Ms. Bratcher, who teaches the children of U.S. military families. “That’s what Alpha Kappa Alpha women do. We make strides.”

Whenever discussing race is discussed, the white person gets to be the arbiter of the meaning of what is said or not said, regardless who says or doesn’t say it.

Therefore, if a white person says something that a black person finds offensive, the white person gets not only to determine that what they said wasn’t offensive, but also to tell the black person that they are wrong to have taken offense and demand an apology from said black person for taking offense.

On the other hand, when a black person says something that the white person finds offensive - even if the offense is based on something the black person didn’t actually say - the white person not only gets to determine that what the black person said (or even if they didn’t say anything offensive that what they MEANT, as interpreted, of course, by the white person) was offensive, but also to tell the black person that they were wrong to say or mean what they didn’t say, and to demand an apology from said black person for what they said or what the white person inferred.

In other words, one of the many hallmarks of white privilege is that a white person can feel entitled to always be the judge of the dynamics of any discussion of race involving a black person while the black person has no say in the matter.

I've always listened. However, I didn't own slaves, segregate them, or fight against their civil rights. Yet every day their is someone on this forum that talks about how they don't want a candidate simply because they're "white" and no one ever calls them out on it. You either believe all racism is wrong or you don't. There are many white people living in poverty and their race hasn't kept them above the poverty line. The only color this world cares about is money.

in modern history, and then pat himself on the back for being able to work across the aisle.

Yes, he was always civil to those creeps.

It sounds like he thinks black members of Congress should also be civil to racists like that -- because it's how you "get things done."
