John Delaney: We need a more just form of capitalism.

I want every kid in America to have the opportunities I had.

We are a capitalist country with strong social programs....

We need to embrace capitalism and it's power to innovate....

It's a mistake to embrace Socialism in it's pure form....

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

Strong social programs?

A living wage?

Affordable/free health care?

Affordable medicines?

Affordable education?

A long way to go before the second half of that sentence becomes a reality.

The question is: Which candidate has the best chance of promoting these goals and winning the election?

I also think that Kamala Harris is a very strong candidate.

Our nation was the first to introduce the concept of using national treasure to help the less fortunate. BUT, we only took that so far. Europe was virtually destroyed by WWI, some countries there embraced social welfare, along with capitalism, except for one notable exception, The USSR. Then a little over 20 years after WWI ended, Europe was again seriously damaged by a second World War, after that war, countries that had not embraced the social welfare model did and they kept capitalism with appropriate regulation.

The problem isn't that we don't have a social net, we do. The problem in that having their lands destroyed by two World Wars caused Western European countries to leave us in the dust vis-a-vis social democracy (blending capitalism with a strong social safety net).

So, we need to catch up, the question is how do we best do that. I don't think going full tilt to socialism remotely get us where we need to be, but reformed capitalism will. We can't allow a company to raise the price of a drug by 400%, 3,000% or even 15% without that price increase being reviewed by state and federal regulators - I do not believe that such a review slows down necessary innovation by companies.

Entrepreneurs may have wealth and ideas and may also work. They don’t, in isolation “create jobs.” Working people bring their skills and knowledge to their work and give life to ideas that would otherwise be useless. Labor and capital (both human capital and tools) create value together.
