(5,376 posts)The Washington Examiner's media bias is Lean Right. After AllSides conducted an extensive editorial review of the Washington Examiner in Sept. 2018, our team decided to move the Washington Examiner from its previous media bias rating of Right to Lean Right.

Articles from right wing sites "supporting" our candidates can be problematic.
Just seeing a right wing site support a candidate can turn off other Democrats.

(146,281 posts)It's not particularly biased, either way. Do you have any comment on what Biden said? The CNN video is in the story, so I assume you watched that. I'd be interested in what you think of Biden's bully comments.

(5,376 posts)Isn't there some sort of guideline about not using right wing news sources?
Again, right wing new source do tend to be anti-Democratic.

(146,281 posts)the CNN article, I can't answer that, since I am not the poster. The video of the interview is embedded in the story at the link, though, so you could watch it if you wanted to.
People even post from Fox News here sometimes, if that's where they see something.
I wouldn't be all that concerned, when it comes to this story, really. It's pretty transparent, I think.

(146,281 posts)I'm not an administrator of this site, so I don't get to say what is allowed or not allowed. That's up to the admins. Over time, I have seen the Washington Examiner used many times as a source here. I take that into consideration when I look at the post.
There are some right-wing sites that will get a post hidden by a user jury here most of the time. There are more sources that I would exclude if I owned this website.
But, the Washington Examiner is not an automatic hide as a source, from what i have observed over a decade.
After you're here for a longer period, you'll probably see many sources that are not progressive quoted on DU. It happens for many reasons. Sometimes, the poster doesn't know. Other times, the source is the only one available. Most readers recognize sources and make adjustments in how they view the story.
I don't know, though. I don't feel competent to tell people what sources to use and not to use. I'm not in charge here. If I were, a lot of things would be different. Yes, indeed, they would. But I'm not. I'm just another DUer.

(5,376 posts)Thank you for the explanation.
I was under the impression that any right wing news source was frowned upon.
Thanks for providing the long term perspective on this particular source.

(146,281 posts)According to the source you provided. It's not a full-on right-wing source, apparently. It's way farther right than I prefer, but it often appears here. A lot of media leans right.

(5,376 posts)It says it used to be rated "right", but as you mentioned, is now "lean right".
I think it's past record is what triggered my suspicions of it, I remember some really RW stuff from them.
And you are right, a lot of media leans right.

(5,376 posts)I understand that even a stopped clock is right twice a day, and that a right wing source might occasionally say something truthful, even complimentary, about a Democrat.
Their compliments worry me because I can't help but think it's a ploy on their part to make their right wing news seem more "honest" and palatable.
And, as I said previously, I think seeing even compliments about a Democrat from a right wing site would turn off some Democrats.
Thanks for the information and the discussion.

(146,281 posts)The whole Examiner thing is an odd duck, really. At one time the Examiner started out as a strictly online sort of news outlet, with "Examiner" websites in many places. You could even start one in your own area and fill it with whatever news you wanted to. I remember when it all started up. I thought about doing something with it in my area, but, it soon morphed into a sort of unreliable name for any news site.
The Washington Examiner ended up being the most successful of the breed. It has sometimes been far right, lean right, even borderline unbiased, depending on what unpaid writer did a story. I don't know what its status is right now, nor what is involved in producing content for it. At one time, anyone who could write reasonably good English could become an Examiner contributor. I never bothered with it, though. So, I don't know the current state of the Washington Examiner. There could be some real journalists writing for it, or not. I don't know any of them, because I never look at it.

(8,515 posts)It is absolutely imperative that we do well with the Rust Belt States.. Salt of the Earth voters ( hard working unions and others) ... Clinton did not do well with these states and we subsequently have a Trump Disease!
Joe is a salt of the earth guy.. Exactly what we need immediately.. If we win then we can start talking about everyone else...
I simply love Warren ..... Buttichieg and Harris.. ..just watched a long doc. on Beto... Man that guy is a hard worker with a ton of energy..
But First things First.. Get the asshole out..

(8,144 posts)Trumps man of the people act for the fraud it is. But I am even more interested in the fact that Joe can demolish Trump on foreign policy and relations, an area Dems need to pay much more attention to.
Joe has on-the-ground experience, tremendous knowledge, and a grasp of the geo-political concerns underlying policy that no other candidate can match.
If I felt there was one woman in the line-up who possessed Bidens qualifications, experience, and knowledge of national governance, legislative process, world affairs, coupled with his stature on the world stage and his nationwide political profile, I would support her in the primaries.
If I felt there was one woman who could get the rust belt votes, turn out the black electorate and draw swing and independent voters in the numbers I think Biden can...
That Biden can still command the widest support is attested to by his earlier poll numbers and continuing front-runner status, despite a temporary surge in other candidates numbers and some erosion into hisbased primarily on one so-called exchange in one debate, which was actually a staged theatrical performance moderators failed to apply the clock to, dealing with a near-fifty year old issue.
Bidens support for women has been unwavering. He would well represent womens issues as president and continue to champion women politicians while appointing women to key posts. A younger woman as his VP pick would go a long way to positioning herself as the next president and to making history for all women if, like Biden, she was as active in the administration on an array of fronts as he was.

(8,515 posts)Things that worries me the most about our outstanding Dem Candidates.
Is the Nanny State Syndrome bullshit, The inevitable lies concerning Tax Raises for everyone.. Guns being collected from general population (good people).. I could go on and on,,
Joe can win the election based on 2 things..A great V.P. with Obama.. and the fact that he can bring the middle class (salt of the earth types) Hard working Americans etc.. back into the Dem.Fold...
But I gotta tell... Warren, Harris, Buttigieg.Beto....All terrific choices..
But for this election we need an ass kicker, whom does real well the middle class.

It may appeal to men who were attracted to Trump's sickening rhetoric, but I hope we will ultimately have higher standards.

(1,642 posts)This septuagenarian schoolyard fight rhetoric is a real negative for me.
One of the reasons that we are supposed to vote for Joe is that he is supposedly mature.

I certainly agree with your second sentence..
This is huge part of Trump's Appeal to his base.. He consistently bullies the ones who are defenseless ...You know it....... I don't have to explain.!
Joe's aggressive behavior towards Trump is a must.. Too many have let Trump get away with his fake Macho Bullshit... He needs to be put down and put down fast.
Whats really important is that the prime reason we lost the 2016 election was because we lost the Rust Belt States..I think Biden's strong talk against Trump is a way we can bring the Salt of the Earth workers back into our fold. They like tough talk..Macho style... I personally like tough guys with tough talk who take on freaking bullies..
Those kids and mothers trapped at the border ....is absolutely disgusting!!!... We need a so called "tough guy" to put our idiot Prez away for good..
The fact that he's going after Trump in a "tough manner" is a good start to getting our Rust Belt Friends back in the fold. They understand tough talk and expect it!!!
By the way I think Warren, Harris, Buttichieg and Beto would make terrific Presidents....However.. If any of them are nominated all we are gonna hear the Right Wing is.. "Nanny State giveaways" Taxes Raised", Invasions, Socalism.. The list will go on and on.. Joe's the one. For Now..

Trump isn't going anywhere until he is voted out. Impeachment is off the table. Biden supports the non-impeachment of Trump. That's weak!
> > I'm surprised that you don't get the concept that Joe is a gentle nice person.
Joe isn't some kind of nice guy.
Did you ever see some videos of the Clarence Thomas proceedings? He gets tough with the Dems and coddles the Repubs. Typical centrist Dem.
> > They like tough talk..Macho style..
Says you. I think most voters who would be inclined to vote for a Dem would think this is asinine.
I personally would not want to have a beer with Joe. He exudes way too much ego.
>> Those kids and mothers trapped at the border ....is absolutely disgusting!!!... We need a so called "tough guy" to put our idiot Prez away for good..
No. We need good policy.

You will hear this regardless of who is the nominee.

(5,376 posts)Really? WTF!?!
Are you serious? Are you overly sensitive about Biden's age or something?
Here is the #1 definition for the word mature:
ma·ture
[məˈCHo͝or, məˈto͝or]
ADJECTIVE
fully developed physically; full-grown.
"she was now a mature woman" · [more]
synonyms:
adult · grown-up · grown · fully grown · full-grown · of age · fully developed · fully fledged · in one's prime · in full bloom · nubile
I would think any candidate would take being called mature as a compliment.
