(146,286 posts)The folks who want someone other than Biden are averaging out their preferences over three candidates. So, the current race is for second place. All three show 15%, which is the threshold for getting any delegates in state primaries. The 15% rule is designed to limit the number of candidates who are considered at the convention.
I expect to see those 15% numbers doing the changing over the next few weeks, with Biden holding at about the same 30%. However, as other candidates opt to drop out for being nonviable, the distribution in the polls might chance in unexpected ways.
It looks to me like Biden has a solid base of Democrats who think he's the best choice. I think that 30% is probably his floor of support. What happens to that group of three will be worth watching, as will shifts from the rest of the field to other candidates, which is probably about to begin in earnest.

(5,376 posts)Emerson has been one of Joe Biden's strongest polls, having showed him consistently in the mid 30's% prior to this week's poll.
Biden went from 34% to 30%, but his lead increased because Sanders support fell more from 27% to 15%.
Harris's support increased 8%, from 7% to 15%.
Warren's support increased 1%, from 14% to 15%.

Despite Biden losing 4 points of his support from 34% to 30%, he extended his lead in the Democratic primary from 7 points in June to 15 points,
