The Only Democrat Making Sense About the Supreme Court Right Now

This is how Democrats should be talking about the Supreme Court, and none of them are. NONE of them are saying anything more about the Supreme Court other than some platitudes about which justices they’ll appoint. None of them have addressed the fact that the Republicans STOLE a seat on the Supreme Court last time, and none of them seem to have any plan for what to do about it.

Are you suggesting impeaching an SC judge?

This is NOT Buttigieg's plan. It's just one he's mentioned as an example of ways to improve the Court and the process of selecting the makeup of it.

I don't know all the details of this particular "Yale" plan but I'm interested in learning more. Yours is a good question and another one I have is how a replacement for one of the 5 selected by a Rep or Dem president would be replaced if a vacancy occurred in one of those 10 but the "other" party held the presidency. I'm sure it's in the plan details but I haven't heard about it yet.

Just nice to have a candidate willing to get a conversation started.

4. 20 year terms

Instead of letting the justices decide when they are retiring, put them on fixed 20 year terms. That way they cannot game the system. They can always be reappointed if the president wants. Properly spaced, just about every president would get to make at least one appointment. The current balance of the court is due in some part to the fact that Carter never got to make an appointment. Trump has gotten to appoint too many.

I believe some scholars have said that the Yale plan could be done statutorily but I think doing away with lifetime appointments would require a constitutional amendment.

I googled it without any success. Corey just saying he wants to expand the court is not a thought out plan. You'd think any serious proposal by someone with his name recognition would already be well and widely known about.

We can probably look for him and other candidates to come up with some thought out plans now and I look forward to seeing them.
