Warren's Campaign Receives 1 Million Donations

Elizabeth Warren’s Campaign Receives 1 Million Donations, Hitting Milestone

Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts has received one million donations to her campaign for president, her team announced on Friday, making her the only Democratic candidate aside from Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont to reach that threshold so far in the 2020 cycle.

The milestone further solidifies Ms. Warren’s standing as a top fund-raiser after a slow first three months in the presidential race, during which she raised just $6 million. Despite having sworn off private fund-raisers, Ms. Warren raised $19.2 million in the second quarter, placing her behind only Mayor Pete Buttigieg of South Bend, Ind., and former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. during that period.

In an email the campaign sent to supporters about the accomplishment, Ms. Warren’s campaign manager, Roger Lau, affirmed the wisdom of running what he called a “100 percent people-powered campaign” reliant on grass-roots support.

...more than once. For example, in Warren's case there are two who have contributed to Warren more than 100 times. That's only two people but 200 contributions.

As a matter of fact, one of those people gave 105 times but only $483 total.

It's the same with just about all of the campaigns.

so, all other factors being equal, Warrens one million can be compared apples to apples with whatever number of contributions the other campaigns have racked up. Some campaigns, like Senator Sanders for example, regularly ask for $1 donations.

....not contributors.

His is an extreme, in the last cycle he had a number of people who gave about 1,000 times with an average of about $5 each. It's a way to tout funding the campaign on "small contributions", even though they're coming from dreaded "big money" contributors.

Hard to respond to hypotheticals.

Are there any links to actual numbers so we can see "if" that hypothetical is done to any significant degree?

Thanks. I will be waiting anxiously for the links to hard data.

But in general, all things considered, getting a MILLION contributions does seem like an indication of grassroot support.

13. Here you go:
Fri Jul 26, 2019, 02:05 PM
Jul 2019
https://www.fec.gov/data/candidates/?is_active_candidate=true&has_raised_funds=true

Would you consider someone contributing over a thousand dollars in 113 individual contributions "grassroots"? Would you consider someone giving $6055 (several hundred above the maximum, by the way) in 60 individual contributions "grassroots"? How about someone giving $1700 in 93 individual contributions? Grassroots?

Of more than 18,000 contributors who have been itemized, 72% have contributed more than once and those 72% have an average of almost 6 individual contributions each and they've given an average of $426.

Again, would are there any links to actual numbers so we can see "if" that is done to any significant degree?

Citing a handful of donors out of a MILLION total contributions seems, well, unconvincing that they represent anything significant.

Thanks. I will be waiting anxiously for the links to hard data.

But in general, all things considered, getting a MILLION contributions does seem like an indication of grassroot support. Sorry, but it really does. At least to me. And the NY Times.

...does two things:

Increases the number of contributions
Decreases the average contribution

Both were then used as "proof" that it's a grass roots campaign with lots of contributions and coming from "small" contributors. No matter that dozens if not hundreds of them came from the same people who, at the end of the day, are really "big money contributors", the bugaboo of a progressive campaign.
