She continued: "Traditional political types might scoff at it, but Rogan's reach - to independents, conservatives and liberals - is enormous. He's a humanizing, fascinating interviewer, even if I don't always agree with him."

Several users on Twitter and Youtube expressed shock at the length of the interview, pointing out that the one-on-one conversation allowed the candidate to break down his key political issues without as much interruption as a network-produced debate.
"All politics aside, it's incredible that this style of interview happened. Hats off to Bernie for coming on the show. It was nice to hear what he actually thinks without talking heads interrupting," one Youtube user wrote.
"You can disagree with this man, fine. I do too on several issues. But I have to respect a presidential candidate that will sit down at this length and answer the questions he is getting asked. A lot harder say nothing for 1.5 hours than it is for 45 seconds," another user wrote.

(1,262 posts)I have not seen the whole program - only the first 10 minutes. During those first 10 minutes, Joe Rogan asked questions and engaged in discussions with Bernie Sanders. It was not adversarial like a debate.

How does a person debate oneself?
Guess it is a win win situation.

(58,284 posts)for the interviewer to ask intelligent, in depth questions, let the candidate respond and explain said candidate's position on the critical issues affecting the American People without constant interruption.
It's difficult for me to view Chris Matthews for example doing an interview without the instinctive urge to hurl large quantities of undigested material.
Considering the complexity of the issues and proposed policies, I also believe having a longer interview as opposed to the usual 5 minutes or ten minutes if you're lucky to be beneficial to not only the candidate but the viewers as well in making a more informed decision.
If anyone in the media including the interviewer have an objection or rebuttal to said candidate's statements there is no shortage of time, people or media institutions whether on T.V. print or the Internet to voice their opinion.
Having a longer interview allowing the candidate more time to articulate their position in depth also diminishes (although not eliminates) stupid ass attempts at "gotcha" journalism taking hold a of short sound bite due to the usual curtailed time limits.
I would like to see all of our candidates take advantage of these opportunities to speak more directly to the American People en-mass.
I believe it's good for our candidates and most assuredly for our nation.

We can quibble all night over the words "debate," or "interview;" but considering the problems facing our nation, the current occupant in the Oval Office and how our dysfunctional "mainstream" media's SOP of debates, non-coverage and non-investigative journalism when it most counted enabled his rise to the White House to begin with but to me those words are irrelevant to the big picture.
The hostile back and forth with constant interruptions during very limited time certainly aren't debates, just drama or "reality T.V." and that gives someone like Trump today and future Trumps great advantage.
I don't tune in to view the interviewer so much as the candidate and his/her message.

gives a modicum of respect to the candidate but even more so to the people viewing the program.
Every other candidate got the same allotted time. You call disrespect to Bernie. What about the rest of them.
I am not going to quibble at all. IT WAS NOT A DEBATE.
Mainstream, lamestream media, fake news. We have heard that before. Bernie is upset how the debates were set up and blames it on the media. Sorry. It was not their fault that there were 24 candidates and frankly I think they set it up the best they could. Every candidate had a right to full time on that stage.
So watch the interview, sans debate. Listen to a monologue and not the enrichment of other ideas in play to make us a stronger union to beat trump.

Sanders did fare significantly better in a third recent Iowa poll, though, taking 19 percent in a CBS News/YouGov survey a few weeks ago, and his national polling has also been relatively stable after dropping earlier in the summer. Monmouths poll also includes a slightly older sample than showed up for the 2016 caucuses, which might depress the numbers of a candidate like Sanders, who does so well with younger voters. So its worth waiting to see if more quality Iowa polling shows a similar decline. (Its also possible Iowa voters are tuning in earlier than other voters, given they hold the first contest, and dont mirror the nation as a whole.)
But if the new poll is close to accurate, its not a great omen. As with the Suffolk University poll a month ago that also put Sanders at 9 percent, this one shows relatively few Iowa voters have him as either their first or second choice. In this poll, another 8 percent name Sanders as their second choice, meaning hes the first or second choice of just 17 percent of voters. Thats compared to 40 percent for Biden and 38 percent for Warren.
As I argued last month, this is especially ominous for Sanders given he took nearly 50 percent of the vote in the state in 2016. He was never going to get that much of the vote again, given this is a crowded field instead of a two-candidate field, but hed probably hope to at least be a leading option for lots of voters early in the process. In both this new poll and the Suffolk poll, hes either tied or trailing South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg on first- and second-choice voters.
