Related: About this forumVP Bidens never ending gaffes and why do his supporters keep defending him!!!
or something to that effect.. you will see it every day in news.. the talking head circles.. the ops on DU.. the final analysis if you look at all of them.. is that he is done.. a cooked goose.. am I missing any??
Okay, here is the deal.. I may not be speaking for all of VP Biden's people.. but I know I am speaking for a lot of them.. We know he makes gaffes.. we knew it before we took up his cause.. it is part and parcel of who he is.. he gaffes.. thank God he recognizes it most times and corrects.. but gaffes never ending..
The difference between someone like Donald Trump as an example..(the elephant in the room )and Joe Biden.. is that Trump talks, he makes gaffes too, but never apologizes and just keeps bulldozing as do some of our candidates sometimes. they talk the talk, but do not walk the walk
VP Biden will be forever gaffe prone.. but he gets the job done.. he walks the walk.. and that is why we back him.. we know he will get it done.. and he does not over promise or under promise.. he knows what is possible and pushes the envelope to get the possible and the next step..
Lily Ledbetter with President Obama.. the Violence Against Women Act.. the Assault Weapons Ban (yes the Bushes let it expire but he can get it back)..pushing everyone including my beloved President Obama to back gay marriage..etc etc etc
I will take a gaffe prone President Biden any day over someone who can tell a wonderful story but not get anything done..

(10,870 posts)The media loves the gaffes.
They can say, oh look, we dont just show Trumps mistakes, we show Democrats too.
They WRONGLY equate a mixup of words or misstatement by Joe with some horrible thing that Trump says. A total false equivalency.
I know Joes heart.
Hes not my first choice but I will enthusiastically work for and defend him if hes our nominee.

(3,541 posts)And yes you are correct that he is gaffe prone but he is also real. He doesn't hide who he is and we accept that because we know he can get the job done. Joe can bring those swing states that we need to win back to blue.

(2,565 posts)I raised gasps at a happy hour with long-time fellow Democratic friends the other night by saying that we should stop focusing on everyone's gaffes--including Trump's--and go deeper. They really looked horrified. So-called POTUS has so much more going on than his gaffes. And do we not all do stupid things like mean Dayton but say Detroit? We're not running for president, so we all laugh and every once in a while the gaffe requires a giggle and "oops, Freudian slip," but no one makes a huge deal out of it because it is trivial.
I wish we had a perfect candidate, just like I wish I was perfect. Perfectionism kills.
However, this one was a really interesting on on Joe's part, because it brought to the surface a subconscious thought that I am guessing many citizens have in our intrinsic cultural racism. When the words "poor people" come up, what do you instantly see with your mind's eye? At this point in my life, I get a split screen. One has Black people in a decrepit urban setting with a sense of violence pending in the background--I see liquor stores, lots of children, a community of people surviving together. The violence is from handguns. The other side has White people in decrepit trailer park settings for some reason, rural or on the edge of rural, with meth labs in the background, lots of children, another community of people surviving on limited means. There is also a sense of pending violence, but it becomes domestic in my own mind's eye, with a lot of child abuse. Both pictures have lots more pain in them than a picture that floats to the surface if I hear "middle-class." But that's just me--we all have images (or words, or feelings) that are automatic responses.
So what's my point? That when Joe (or anyone) makes a gaffe, there's his personal subconscious reality floating to the surface.
I need more coffee in the morning before I read the news.
TGIF, everyone.

(22,874 posts)I do them myself.. can be looking at the green grass and say the word yellow.. I do it myself.. its not that I think grass is yellow.. its just my brain did a skip..because I was looking at the dandelions in the grass and the word yellow came out
What counts for me, is what is accomplished.. not a brain hiccup.. or the ability to see you have had a brain fart and go back and correct it.. some just do not have that ability or flexibility to understand their own failings.. we all do it.. and I knew VPBiden was prone to it long before I took up his cause..

(7,277 posts)Saying Obama was 'articulate, bright, clean and a nice-looking guy' was a gaffe. The glitches in his speech - when he has a word in his head, and says something else, is another thing, known as aphasia.

(37,748 posts)And, with all the self-righteous they can muster, will petulantly lecture anyone who will listen that a book's cover is an accurate indication of a book.
But that really only speaks to the books they themselves read... and it's a given, coloring books often do advertise themselves as such on the cover. So I don't really blame them.
