O'Rourke: We will 'die in our sleep' if we don't confront Trump threat
Im confident that if at this moment, we do not wake up to this threat," he said in an early morning address in El Paso, "then we as a country will die in our sleep.
(snip) We must take the fight directly to the source of this problem, that person who has caused this pain and placed this country in this moment of peril, ORourke said. And that is Donald Trump.
You do not get kids in cages until youve given people permission to put them in cages by calling them animals and seeking to dehumanize them, he said. You dont lose the lives of seven children in the custody and care of the wealthiest, the most powerful country on the face of the planet, unless you have made it possible. And you do not get somebody driving 600 miles to come to this community in his manifesto repeating the very words used by the president of the United States to justify this act of terror and hatred and violence and death.

(43,128 posts)Make Trump the issue, and speak to people's minds and aspirations instead of policy and pocketbook issues. Beto sees the crisis more clearly than anyone. And he's not appealing to balance, and fairness, and the center. Beto is simply genuine.

(56,828 posts)the issue is Trump and how his hate, racism and misogyny makes him unfit for office.
Everything else is irrelevant until Trump is out of office - I don't care if you support a $12, $15 or $20/hour minimum wage because if Trump wins again, the minimum wage will be 0. He's already stated that's what he believes it should be.

(12,712 posts)He had better bone up on the techniques being used by Trump to bulldoze over any attempts to confront him.
That's a major hurdle, IMHO. I would really like to assume that any candidate who is going to confront someone who's only real, demonstrable skill might be manipulating people and situations to get what he wants, (and without even having to try because it is deeply ingrained from so many years of practice) is going to pour over Captain Snake Oil's tweets and any debates or interviews he has appeared in. Also, reading the book he had ghost written does contain some of his tactics.
Those tactics have to be brought out, re-framed, and met swiftly and without hesitation in every encounter, from phrasing to body language!
This is going to take a Sun Tzu, Art of War, verbal approach and to go into that boasting and over-confident without intensive preparation is a big mistake...bigly! There are many linguistic techniques available these days for this kind of battle, but without them, then anyone is fair game.

(2,594 posts)There's no technique in a bulldozer. There's no subtlety in a tsunami of shit. Right now, tRump is dissembling badly. A lot of things aren't going so swell for him or the country right now and he has no idea how to handle things except to put the finger of blame on someone else. People are starting to see what a gargantuan ass he is and what a shitload of gargantuan proportions he's been dumping on the country for the past three years. He'll always have that 30-35% block of braindead blockheads who always line up in the rethuglican party because they represent the 30 -or so percent of Americans who are still fighting the Civil War. I think most people have a bad taste in their mouths right now. They've had a taste of that caviar he's been purveying to them for the past five or six years on now, and they're realizing he's spooning them up spoiled scrotes. His song and dance has grown old and he's beginning stink like a rotten fish.

(402 posts)Beto O'Rourke is absolutely right. But the best thing he can to to take Donald Trump down, is to return to Texas and run for Senator against Senator Cornyn. He is not going to win the democratic nomination for President so his efforts would be most effective in trying to turn the Senate Blue AND turning Texas blue. Texas has 38 electoral college votes and that would go a long way to taking Trump down.
