Did Elizabeth Warren Just Neutralize Trump's Best Attack?

Great comeback by the Warren campaign hitting Trump where it hurts. On substance.

https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2019/08/elizabeth-warren-native-american-proposal

As Donald Trump himself foreshadowed at his New Hampshire rally Thursday night, promising to revive his “Pocahontas” attack—“don’t worry, we will revive it. It can be revived. It will be revived. And it can be revived very easily, and very quickly,” he promised the crowd—Elizabeth Warren is still attempting to navigate the charge that she lied about her Native American heritage to get preferential treatment at Harvard, and criticism over the DNA test she took to prove otherwise. On Friday, she attempted to get out in front of the issue with—what else?—a plan. In a Medium post, Warren dropped a comprehensive policy proposal outlining her vision for helping the Native American community achieve economic and social parity.

As Politico noted, the 9,000-word proposal is her longest yet, double the length of anything she’s released thus far. It’s perhaps an overly-meticulous way of addressing her misfire with the DNA test, which drew outrage from some Native American leaders, and concern from the progressive world that she was dabbling in cultural appropriation. Regardless, Warren went all out. “The story of America’s mistreatment of American Indians, Alaska Natives, and Native Hawaiians is a long and painful one, rooted in centuries of discrimination, neglect, greed, and violence,” she wrote. “Washington owes Native communities a fighting chance to build stronger communities and a brighter future.”

Included in her proposal: revoking permits for the controversial Keystone XL and Dakota Access pipelines running through tribal lands; increasing the funding for the Indian Health Service insurance agency; reinforcing protections against businesses and developers taking over sacred lands; and, critically, expanding criminal jurisdiction to allow tribes to prosecute crimes committed by non-Natives on tribal land, while increasing funding for tribal law enforcement and the justice system.

Warren’s comeback may have surprised Trump, who told voters in April that, “she’s finished, she’s out, she’s gone,” and gloated about the inevitable end of her campaign. A Fox News poll released Thursday revealed that the exact opposite has happened: Warren is now beating Trump by a full 7 points in a hypothetical matchup, 46-39. Even more worrisome for the president, the poll showed her placing second in the Democratic primary race, overtaking Bernie Sanders and closing in on “Sleepy” Joe Biden. In short, it’s surely only a matter of time before Trump resorts to his old smear campaign. And this time, in theory, Warren is ready for him.

primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

"attempting to navigate the charge that she lied about her Native American heritage to get preferential treatment at Harvard"

Harvard has stated that she did not receive any preferential treatment.

One can do something to try to get preferential treatment and yet also not get that preferential treatment.

But more to the point, VF is completely accurate in explaining what the charge she is trying to navigate is. That much is completely true regardless of whether the charge itself is true or false.

I can do something to try to influence your vote. You can say I in no way influenced your vote. That doesn't make it a lie to say I tried. Even if it was a stupid, futile thing to do that never stood a chance.

But to the more important second part of my post, if people were accusing me of trying to influence your vote, and in fact that wasn't what I was trying to do at all and I was fighting those accusations, it would still be true to say I was fighting accusations of trying to influence your vote, even if I never tied to influence your vote!

There is simply nothing inaccurate in the VF sentence.

...have to admit, Elizabeth's been extremely soft on trump considering trump's attacks on her dignity...why?

...because only Bernie can do a trump effectively...

...Bernie is Jewish...this time around being Jewish is a tremendous asset...Bernie has already called trump a racist and a bigot...meanwhile, trump's positioned himself as the great defender of Jews and Israel...

...but if trump ever attacks Bernie like trump loves to attack Elizabeth, Bernie will jam a anti-Semitic badge squarely up trump's ass and out of his mouth...

...President Sanders knows how to do a trump properly...

That's not a compliment in my book at all and I actually think Bernie is better than that. I prefer the substance oriented approach of Clinton or Warren, to name just a few. Both also know how to hit back. They just do it with more style and facts.
