Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumBeto O'Rourke Doesn't Want to Run for Senate. That's Fine.
...The obsession with Beto running for the Senate again is just the latest example of a Democratic Party too enamored of individual heroe - so much so that the search for transformative candidates supersedes longer-term goals, such as building a party infrastructure that encourages candidates with roots in the community and gives them a strong array of core positions on which to base a campaign.

(34,163 posts)These are two of the highest-profile candidates we have and both would receive lots of support from within and outside their states.
Beto and/or Stacey as Senator would be more impactful than Beto or Stacey as VP.

(34,163 posts)By that way of thinking there is no reason to think he can beat Joe Biden or the other front runners even more so.

(9,696 posts)Even if he weren't running for president, running for senate again would be stupid.
Now, those like Hickenlooper and Bullock, with the highest approval ratings in their respective states, absolutly should run for senate at a time when we need them most.

How is Beto taking the Senate seat from Cornyn not building critical party infrastructure with a candidate with roots in the community and a strong array of core positions?

(171 posts)Wish more people would familiarize themselves with MJ. With enough support, I think she could easily achieve the stardom that Beto did in '18. We are building a deep pool of talent in Texas, and I think time is on our side.
Meanwhile, Beto is articulating positions that will serve us well no matter who ends up as our candidate.

I think hed make a good senator, but it just doesnt seem like the right fit, for me.
I think he should run for Governor of Texas, win, and be a young, progressive governor for Texas, like Bill Clinton was for my home state of Arkansas.
Then to the Presidency, bringing with him that Texas-sized pile of electoral votes!
just my opinion
