Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumTeam Bernie: The Press Has a 'Personal Bias' Against Him and Find His Supporters 'Annoying'
Daily BeastI wish I could check at the outset of every reporters story about Bernie Sanders, I would love to ask them, What do you personally think of Bernie Sanders? campaign manager Faiz Shakir said in an interview with The Daily Beast. For whatever reason, he gets under their skin. He draws an emotional chord in a different way that ends up impacting and affecting the bias, I think, or at least the way in which stories are crafted and written about him in particular is different.
Shakirs remarks dont appear derived from any direct conversations; merely a hunch about the ideological leanings of the political press corps. But they illustrate the level of distrust with which Bernies team has increasingly come to view those covering their campaign.
Criticizing the media has been a rite of passage for virtually every presidential candidate, well before Donald Trump turned it into a pernicious political art form. But among the Democrats running for the White House, Sanders stands alone in his sense of aggrievement.
Coincidentally, I find his campaign team annoying...

(89 posts)He's turned into a radical far lefty one.
My political breakup with him came when he surrendered to the current political correcteness that's plaguing the Western world and pushes part of society in the arms of Trump likes, by saying "White people doesn't know what poverty is" (don't remember the proper sentence).

(4,490 posts)Maybe she had a better hold on their public communications. I voted for him over Clinton, but have always seen an element of that sort of thing on his campaign team. They have had some real beef with various members of the press and DNC, but it too often becomes hyperbolic. Weaver in particular has always been an ass.

Biden Advisor Symone Sanders Clashes With CNNs Keilar Over Biden Gaffes: Its A Press Narrative
(Simone)Sanders responded, This is a press narrative, not a voter narrative. If you were to look at the coverage in Iowa this weekend and juxtapose the local newspapers and local television coverage to national media coverage you would have thought these reporters were at two different events.
She said she wont tell the press how to do their jobs, but added everyone should elevate the conversation and that we cannot allow this election to devolve in a tit for tat over name-calling and gaffes, something that does not matter. This is not something thats registering with the American people.

Over the past several years, Sanders has expanded his internal media operation, releasing a newsletter, a podcast, and counterprogramming major media events. The senator also engaged with non-traditional media sources, appearing on Pod Save America and the Joe Rogan podcast, and posting an interview with Cardi B on the senator's Instagram.
Shakir said that although he had not discussed it with the senator, a Sanders administration would likely look skeptically at major media mergers (the senator in the past has opposed major mergers, including the scuttled Comcast-Time Warner venture). And to make journalism easier, a Sanders administration would attempt to increase the release of data from government agencies for journalists to work with.
But some of the problems that the Sanders campaign believes it faces now could bethey surmiseeasily resolved should he win.
If you have a president who gets elected despite all of those obstacles and barriers it will necessarily change how people think and view all of these policies and how they cover them, he said. His whole campaign is built around having that be the genesis of not only changing policy, but also a lot of media coverage and norms and values in society itself.

(94,503 posts)This isn't about corporate influence; he's claiming biases on the part of the individuals covering the campaign.
Perhaps Sanders should cancel all press events and limit to just his supporters through his own media strategies?

Corporate media conglomeration is a real thing and it's not good for democracy.

(32,640 posts)doesn't confirm your bias. Handy that!
And the defintion of "corporate influence" seems to malleable as well when it comes to corporately influenced sources that crank out content that pleases you.
For instance you used 'Allbritton owns Politico'' to discredit Politico in toto when I cited an article that got under your skin, then you turned around and cited a Politico article that confirmed your bias the very following week, as if Allbritton never existed or was no longer the owner....
As I pointed out in the links upthread.
Wherein you reject "the source:"

The headline by Politico was at best a major mis-characterization of Bernie's point of view and at worst a blatant lie, you may not have a problem with that but I do.
Sanders walks back suggestion Bezos meddled in Washington Post coverage

Your second link in that post was to npr, that article never made such a false assertion as Politico and was overall better balanced.

https://www.npr.org/2019/08/13/750800062/sanders-again-attacks-amazon-this-time-pulling-in-the-washington-post
Your third link to that post was from USA Today with a headline quoting WAPO's editor, light on substance but it never made the false assertion that Bernie "walked back" anything or mis-characterized his position.

Your last link in that post was just a repeat of the first link, the same exact article, why you duplicated on the same post, I have no idea? Honestly that escaped my attention until just now.

Now having said, that I still don't trust the owner of Politico and never will that doesn't mean I won't use articles contributed to them from journalists that I believe to be fair and balanced, not FOX New's version either.
