Republicans May Be More Divided Than Democrats

"SNIP....

Alan Abramowitz: “When it comes to ideological identification, Democratic voters are far more divided than Republican voters. Around two-thirds of Republican voters identify as conservative while fewer than half of Democratic voters identify as liberal. Many observers of the current presidential campaign have cited this fact to argue that ideological divisions are a serious potential threat to Democratic unity, especially if the party nominates a strongly liberal candidate.”

“But a closer examination of recent polling data indicates that when it comes to specific policy issues such as abortion, gun control, and health care, Democratic voters are actually considerably less divided than Republican voters. Moreover, these data show that divisions among Democrats based on age, education, and race are much less significant when it comes to policy issues.”

“What makes this all the more important is that policy preferences appear to have a much stronger influence than ideological identification on voters’ broader political outlook including their opinions of President Trump. These findings suggest that the task of uniting Democrats behind the party’s eventual nominee may not be as difficult as some pundits and political observers have suggested.”

you would think that they believe that only they are the true, righteous, and noble Democrats and all of us who are less liberal than they are just posers...DINOs and Republican Lite.

Despite all the hoopla about Democrats uniting to get rid of Trump above all else I still think it's more likely that Republicans will unite to support him. Even in 2016 there were Republicans who didn't like Trump but still voted for him because only either he or Hillary would be the next president. While too many Democrats need to be noble and pure, Republicans are more pragmatic and think it's better to get elected.

He's really acting and sounding nuts at this point. The Greenland fiasco; the I am the Chosen One, King of Israel; smacking American Jews for voting with the Democratic Party and this morning insisting the 'politically correct' auto industry reduce their prices $3000 per vehicle to boost the economy. Trump is flailing in all directions: gun regulation/no gun regulation, middle-class tax breaks/no middle-class tax cuts. I fully expect a meltdown at the G-7 because he's already threatened to dump captured ISIS fighters into Europe, payback for . . . whatever. And then, there's the economy with lights flashing red. The money-makers are getting very nervous.

There's a point where the sheer craziness is indisputable, as is the damage Trump has done and continues to do. So I do think Democrats will converge and support our nominee, whoever that is. Because the alternative (another 4 years with a Mad King) is unthinkable. Frankly, another 4 years of this? National suicide.
