Barack Obama faces 30 death threats a day, stretching US Secret Service

What if?

Biden: "Imagine if Obama had been assassinated"

…………………………...……..

Here are a few facts for you all.

Barack Obama faces 30 death threats a day, stretching US Secret Service

By Toby Harnden in Washington
8:34PM BST 03 Aug 2009

Since Mr Obama took office, the rate of threats against the president has increased 400 per cent from the 3,000 a year or so under President George W. Bush, according to Ronald Kessler, author of In the President's Secret Service.

Some threats to Mr Obama, whose Secret Service codename is Renegade, have been publicised, including an alleged plot by white supremacists in Tennessee late last year to rob a gun store, shoot 88 black people, decapitate another 14 and then assassinate the first black president in American history.

snip

According to the book, intelligence officials received information that people associated with the Somalia-based Islamist group al-Shabaab might try to disrupt Mr Obama's inauguration in January, when the Secret Service co-ordinated at least 40,000 agents and officers from some 94 police, military and security agencies.

More than a dozen counter-sniper teams were stationed along the inauguration parade route and the criminal records of employees and hotel guests in nearby buildings were scrutinised.

snip

After Mr Obama was elected president, his two children Malia, 11, codenamed Radiance, and Sasha, eight, codenamed Rosebud, began receiving Secret Service protection. Mr Obama's wife Michelle is codenamed Renaissance. The Secret Service also started to protect Vice-President Joe Biden's children, grandchildren, and mother.

snip

The Secret Service has increasingly cut corners after it was absorbed by the new Homeland Security Department under Mr Bush. Kessler said that when Mr Biden threw the first pitch at the first Baltimore Orioles game of the 2009 season, the Secret Service did not screen any of the more than 40,000 fans, stunning his agents and the local Secret Service field office.

Not One Day Went By That I Did Not Fear For Obama. Not one day. I didn't say it out loud to anyone. I was to scared to say it, think it or feel it...that is how terrified I was for him and his family.

I am disappointed in DU tonight. Joe once again is being trashed. He lived the Obama WH. He knew the threats and danger to his family and his President. He knew.

Take a moment and imagine that the hatred and a single bullet was directed at you every dayum day.

If I were to vote in a presidential

But I wasn't sure the haters would let him be. He was/is charismatic, charming, handsome -- like JFK, and that gets inadequate men envious.

I wish he and Michelle and their wonderful girls could have some peace. God knows, we owe them that.

And that terrible bomber, the one who sent bombs to both the Clintons and the Obamas-- I hope they put him away forever.

Thank you so much for your kind words. They mean a lot to me.

We can do this. We must do this, for our children and our future.

Many more people will die because of those who voted for him, didn’t vote at all, or voted for anyone other than “her”. How many? I don’t know, but I fear the numbers will be high. All because we were, yes, decadent, and thought that what happened in 1933 couldn’t happen here in 2016. It could have, and it did, and now we’ll have to rebuild.

snip

I have no explanation why our country descended into apathetic madness. But we’ll have to atone for this sin for decades to come. If we survive that long.

when he was POTUS himself.

From what I've read previously, there's like an order of magnitude drop-off or more in resources devoted to ex-POTUS's compared to current POTUS, but are the nutjobs really more than an order of magnitude *less* riled-up by Trump's bile *now* than they were by Boehner/Paul/McConnell/FOXNews/Koch Bros/Rush/Beck/etc when he was POTUS? The thought makes me sick, because I'm not at all confident that the answer is yes.

in sept 2008 limnbaugh made up a silly pretext - that obama should fire a staffer - to say 'obama's head needs to roll"

the local blowhard says hey maybe the 'purge' concept isn't so bad in reference to sanctuary cities.

limbaugh started around inauguration selling the bs that the obamas got a place near DC so they could oversee the 'deep state coup' and has been obstructing and polluting the mueller probe and jury pool sever since

it's been going on for 30 fucking years from a 1500 radio station monopoly that is now getting input from the kremlin and democrats continue to do nothing

this situation is really fucking stupid

democrats cannot collectively say they're getting the back of one of our best presidents. really fucking stupid, and i regularly have people tell me talk radio is irrelevant

I looked back at the thread that was so critical of Joe, and I was appalled by the deliberate misunderstanding and outright hate directed at Joe by some DU members. Joe is not my first choice, but he may be the nominee. I understand what Joe was saying.

I worried about President Obama every day of his Presidency. I never said anything about it outside of my household.

I worry about him now, with all the hate trump is bringing to the surface. I worry about the Clintons, too. The waves of hate being directed at all of them are searing.

I was a senior in college when MLK and RFK were assassinated. Bobby had just visited my college in Valparaiso, Indiana. He quoted Camus about hungry children. He went on to Indianapolis. We all know what happened when he got there.

A month later, in the waning days of my semester, when I was finishing my finals, Bobby went to California, and he was shot. He died just before I took my last final.

I was a wreck when I got home. My parents were Democratic election judges. The Democratic precinct committeeman lived next door. We spoke. He handed me a stack of literature for local Democratic candidates. He told me to find a friend, to go out and canvas the precinct. We mourn, and then we go on, he said, or else they win. His attitude did help me, but I know the horror and grief Joe was referencing. I lived with it myself.

I don't know how some people can go so low just to trash a candidate who is not their first choice.

Other than the Secret Service and others whose job it is to keep the family safe, I'd rather people not be encouraged to imagine the assassination of Obama (except those charged with protecting his life.)

I was beside myself this morning reading some articles and quotes .. (some in here).. trying to make political hay.. or saying it was another gaffe.. not understanding for a moment what the VP was saying.. there is such a thing as purposeful ignorance.. and I am chalking it up to that.. we talked about it here in DU.. scared spitless sometimes for President Obama and his family.. and some of us have lived through that time.. wanting to win a political moment without stopping to think or read for comprehension what the VP was trying to tell people.. is beyond sad.. and my opinion of some people has been permanently altered because of this..

Some days I really wonder why I come to DU. (Then I read my friends' posts and know why I'm still here.)

But gods, the stupidity that sometimes runs rampant here. So if the hyper-partisans manage to get rid of Joe, who will be next? And the media? They're going after him like HRC -- who will they destroy next? The media is callous -- hey, we have lots of Dem candidates, right? But the hyper-partisans are just astoundingly shortsighted and easy to manipulate.
