days. I would pick Harris. I have had it with extravagant plans and policy proposals.

Sun Aug 25, 2019, 03:55 PM
Aug 2019

If Biden’s level of support has a hard floor of around 30% nationally and in Iowa, then neither Sanders nor Warren can afford to splinter the leftist vote, especially because there’s so little either can poach from the second- and third-tier candidates.

Warren, as of this moment, appears to have more opportunity to broaden her base than Sanders, but that’s only of marginal potential benefit. In last week’s national Morning Consult poll, Warren is the top second choice of both Kamala Harris and Pete Buttigieg supporters, who have been in fourth and fifth place, respectively, in most surveys. Harris and Buttigieg are moderates compared to Warren and Sanders. (Harris recently told the New York Times that, unlike Warren and Sanders, “I’m not trying to restructure society.” Buttigieg opposes single-payer health insurance and universal free college.) But in that poll, Harris and Buttigieg combine for only 15% of the vote, and only about one-quarter of those voters would jump to Warren — roughly amounting to about a 3-to-4-percentage-point gain. Plus, Biden is the second choice of about one-fifth of the Harris-Buttigieg voters, meaning if those candidates faded, Warren wouldn’t easily make up much ground.

Moreover, neither Sanders nor Warren could immediately claim the entirety of the other’s support if one did drop out. According to the Morning Consult poll, the second-choice of most Sanders supporters is not Warren, but Biden. About a quarter of Sanders supporters would shift to Warren, presumably because of their ideological proximity. But almost one-third would go to Biden, evidence that ideology is not the only factor driving voter decisions. (For Warren supporters, Sanders is the top second choice, with 25%. But 22% would go to Harris and another 17% would go to Biden.) Demographic appeal and electability concerns are also likely factors.

I could say that about a lot of Biden supporters, that instead of posting good things about Biden, they constantly attack Harris. The only person I see get attacked more than Harris is Bernie. Now I am talking about posting hit pieces from questionable sources, not simply simply pointing out obvious short comings.

Every single candidate has baggage, including Biden, and Harris, but the hit pieces that come from right wing sources, or the Gabber lovers, especially coming from people who "claim" to be supporting Biden, or Harris, should not be accepted as "facts" just because the poster claims to be supporting one of those two candidates, and it seems like they are the top two targets of such attacks.

I think Joe is a great person, but I also think he is NOT the ONLY candidate that can beat trump. In the end I will vote for the candidate that wins the nomination, and I don't care who they are, because they are all better than trump. This post was not a hit piece, no matter how hard some are trying to paint it.

Warren is great, but too far left on too many issues.

Buttigieg is not experienced enough to overcome Midwestern prejudice.

Harris has made a number of statement about intended policies to disqualify her with those voters, and a woman of color from California, faces the same prejudice as Buttigieg.

Sanders is, well, Sanders.

Reliably blue since the 1992 presidential election up until 2016.

Why do you suppose Hillary, also considered a moderate lost those 3 states in 2016 if your reasoning is the others are too far left?

As for Harris being a woman of color, Barack Obama is also a person of color and won those 3 states both in 2008 and 2012.

Sorry, I don’t buy that ONLY Joe can win those states or win the general election.

but in the end the person who gets the nomination, whoever that may be, will end up with the full support of Democrats come election time. They WILL be able to beat trump if we get the voters out. Biden may be the the best one right now to beat trump by a large margin, but if another candidate takes the lead, they will see their numbers go up when it comes to beating trump.

Pretty obnoxious question IMO. If you’re asking who our second choice candidates are there’s a pretty simple way to ask that.

Edit: I misread your question. I honestly think he’d throw his support behind whomever he considered (1) viable and (2) electable. That’s probably Warren. She’s not the most electable IMO (that would be one of the other moderates) but none of them are currently viable for the nomination. Maybe Tom Steyer. I like him and think he and Biden would get along famously.
