Biden tells supporters: 'I'm not going nuts'

Former Vice President Joe Biden told New Hampshire supporters that he was "not going nuts" after he momentarily forgot what building he was speaking at on Dartmouth College's campus last week.

“I want to be clear, I’m not going nuts,” Biden said on Friday. “I’m not sure whether it was the medical school or where the hell I spoke. But it was on the campus.”

The former vice president's clarification came before he mistakenly praised Vermont when asked about his impression of Keene, N.H., which is in close proximity to Vermont, on Saturday.

"I love this place. Look, what’s not to like about Vermont in terms of the beauty of it? And what a neat town. This is like a scenic, beautiful town. The mayor's been a good guy. Everybody has been really friendly. I like Keene a lot," Biden said.

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-election-biden/joe-biden-touts-electability-amid-verbal-stumbles-in-important-new-hampshire-idUSKCN1VF0VH

Biden crisscrossed the state on four different campaign stops from Hanover to Keene on Friday and Saturday before attending a fundraiser in New York City. The trip was vintage Biden: folksy anecdotes, lots of handshakes and a few gaffes.

The Biden crowds, relatively small and older, said they are exhausted by Trump. They see Biden as a unifier whose experience can bring some much-needed normalcy to the White House, and the former vice president’s largest applause lines came when preaching that unity.

23. No, he isn't. But if he is going nuts, so are Warren and O'Rourke

Other candidates have tripped up on the campaign trail while mentioning where they are in recent weeks, including former Rep. Beto O'Rourke (D-Texas), who reportedly mixed up South Carolina and North Carolina during a campaign stop in Greensboro in April, and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), who misspoke while referring to California and Washington D.C. earlier this week.

and so are all the countless other candidates -- and all the people who do a lot of traveling -- who sometimes make similar gaffes.

26. True. The people going nuts are the ones overreacting to trivial gaffes.

44. Biden's trolling them as little bit. Their frustration at being trolled is palpable.

A half-cup of "I'm concerned..." here, a tablespoon or two of "this doesn't look good" there and a generous topping of implied internet diagnoses. It's an easy, convenient, one-skillet meal; but it simply has no nutritional value.

I really do not see that as a thing. I have friends who say things like “I swear I’m not losing it!” when they forget that the glasses they were looking for were on their head the whole time. Of course, I am more likely to say “god I AM losing it” when I lose my car keys twice in an hour.

It happens.

Right now Biden is not my first choice, but constantly fitting in your changing location with your basic formatted stump speech can trip up even the most seasoned politician. I understand while it is preferable for each stop to be unique and be tailored to a specific audience, that in doing so mistakes will happen.
Use a TelePrompTer and you are accused of being not genuine and just reading a script, misspeak on video and you never hear the end of it.

Of course, Trump can just outright lie and make shit up and get away with it. Trump was able to turn his outlandish lies into free media attention/exposure during his last campaign. It served him well.

He seems to talk about issues and places and people really fast and off the cuff, that is where his gaffs happen, IMO.
