People have brought up the Monmouth poll. I hope you all read question 7

7. Which of the following comes closest to how you would like to see health care handled: A. get rid of all private insurance coverage in favor of having everyone on a single public plan like Medicare for All, B. allow people to either opt into Medicare or keep their private coverage, C. keep health insurance private for people under age 65 but regulate the costs, or D. keep the health insurance system basically as it is?
Aug.
2019
A. Get rid of all private insurance coverage in favor of … Medicare for All 22%
B. Allow people to either opt into Medicare or keep their private coverage 53%
C. Keep health insurance private for people under age 65 but regulate the costs 7%
D. Keep the health insurance system basically as it is 11%
(VOL) Other 2%
(VOL) Don’t know 4%
(n) (298)

If Bernie or Warren get the nomination, this could be where we lose the election. Health care is what won it for us in 2018; it could lose it for us in 2020.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

Without substantial youth turnout, we lose.

Any subset numbers for question17, specifically by age? I bet an overwhelming majority of 18-24 year olds would pick option A.

Perhaps they should skip campaigning in Wisconsin again too?

The 18-24 group is the biggest untapped bloc of power in the US electorate.

They aren’t fickle, they are disillusioned and uninspired.

If we nominate someone who inspires the youth the turnout in large numbers, WE WILL WIN.

Everyone in this thread seems to blame the young voters rather than ask “what are we doing wrong, what could we do to increase youth turnout?”

I bet there are a number of candidates out there who aren’t content with playing it safe and keeping with the old Status Quo beliefs.

In 2018 36% of voters 18 to 29 year olds voted. That age group is nearly a third of our adult population. That's a block we can't afford to lose.

If we can generate 36, or even 40% youth turnout in 2020, it will overwhelm any size turnout from the Trump base.

It’s a whole new generation to be tapped into, just waiting for the right inspirational candidate...

And you don’t think we should even try to unlock the riddle of what will get them to the polls?

Talk about a self-fulfilling prophecy...

BTW, I walked precincts for Mondale, and he was about the most uninspiring candidate in my lifetime.

Two generations later, a completely different electorate. All metrics show that this is the most politically active and charitable generation in American history. It's also the most highly educated.

But I'm sure you based your statement on logic, not just a knee jerk reaction about an election that happened before many of us in this board were even born.

Edited for miskeys

Most people still don't know exactly what Medicare for All is, what the benefits are, and how it would effect their bank accounts. Truth is, once people read the bill and understand how beneficial the program will be, they get on board. One of the giant obstacles we face is the misinformation/scare tactics campaign being run by some institutions and, unfortunately, some Democratic candidates as well.
