Article saying Biden trails w/donors from Obama-Trump counties covers 4 mos BEFORE Biden was running

This Daily Beast article

https://www.thedailybeast.com/bernie-sanders-out-raises-joe-biden-in-obama-trump-swing-counties

with its extremely misleading headline

Bernie Out-Raises Biden in Obama-Trump Swing Counties

is about the FIRST SIX MONTHS of the year.

Biden didn't enter the race and start accepting donations until April 26th.

According to an analysis of Federal Election Commission data on the Democratic online giving portal ActBlue, 12,040 donors from those Obama-Trump counties made 19,885 donations to Biden during the first six months of 2019. By contrast, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) had 13,674 donors make 26,298 donations from those counties and South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg had 14,294 donors make 23,320 donations from those counties.

Biden has only been in the race since late April, compared to Warren and Buttigieg, who had launched presidential exploratory committees by the beginning of 2019 and late January respectively. But the latter two have had stronger fundraising months more recently. All three of them trail Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT)—whose campaign helped compile the data—when it comes to donors from Obama-Trump counties. The Democratic-Socialist had 33,185 donors make 81,841 donations in those areas, a haul that his team was eager to tout.

Biden had slightly more than 1/3 as many donors in those counties as Sanders had, in slightly more than 1/3 the time, which means he's basically even with Sanders in # of donors per given time period.

Sanders is ahead in total number of small donations...but I know I've read online that Sanders supporters have been urged to make multiple small donations instead of one larger one to drive up the total number of donations.. (I've seen that mentioned here on DU as well as elsewhere.) So that number isn't as relevant as the number of donors.

Anyway, it looks as though Biden's doing as well as Sanders in those counties.

The fact is that Hillary Clinton won the states in which most of those counties are, and they're only looking at less that 7% of all counties/parishes.

Nothing in that article says anything about the amounts of those donations, so....

....the headline "out-raises" is a fallacy.

However, they do point out that Biden gave the early candidates a two month head start. Sanders began accepting contributions on February 19, Biden on April 18.

The bottom line is that candidates don't spend "donors" or "donations" on media buys, they spend dollars.

In real dollars, Biden received $22.0 million in 73 days, an average of $301,000 per day. Sanders received $36.2 million in 132 days, an average of $274,000 per day.

Nothing in that article says anything about the amounts of those donations, so....

....the headline "Biden trails" is a misnomer.

Also, not mentioned in the article is the fact that most of these 206 counties are in states that Clinton won anyway - Maine (split), New Hampshire, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Illinois, Minnesota, Colorado, New Mexico, and Washington.

This analysis is looking at only a few counties (206), not the entire states in which they are....

....less than 7% of all the counties and parishes in the United States. Also, most of those counties are in states that trump lost anyway.

Warren and Sanders both announced in February. I think this shows Pete to be very impressive, even more so with the Biden Obama connection, considering that this is in Obama-Trump Swing Counties.
