Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumMaybe we could just have a "Joes gaffes" forum.
They seem to REALLY bother a lot of people on here.
Im not one of those people even though I dont want him as our nominee.
I want a woman.
But I still love Joe and think his heart is good.
Anyway, instead of having so many (almost daily) posts discussing what the MSM is talking about with Joe getting this detail wrong or that detail wrong, just have a forum dedicated to it.
You know there will be a lot more.
Joe himself has said he is a gaffe machine.
Hes a storyteller that doesnt care about exact details, its about the moral of the story.
I can relate because I tell stories the same way.
I love Joes heart. I love his resilience from so much tragedy.
I love how he always had Obamas back.
I wish he was a little sharper mentally. But hes 76.
This isnt going to get better.
If you think its disqualifying for him to get the nomination, thats fair.
But, I dont. He would be a rambling President but an honest one. Thats more important to me.
Anyway, what about a forum just dedicated to this subject.

Hes a strong second choice for me, but he needs to sharpen his game up a bit.

(7,113 posts)Joe has always been a loquacious, garrulous, long-winded kind of guy who focuses more on conveying the overall emotion of the story he's telling so as to connect with people and less on self-editing and filtering the finer details to perfection.

(18,486 posts)He's always been very fluid and said just what he wanted and when it came out garbled, he just laughed it off and people said, "that's just Joe being Joe." He's been able to get away with it for years when other politicians couldn't get away with such imprecise and often plain goofy and confusing language. But it shows a certain lack of discipline - a thoughtfulness about how they communicate and effort to do it carefully - that most other politicians and people in public life employ.
Can you imagine if Obama had put his foot on his mouth the way Joe does? It wouldn't have been seen as charming or as "that's just Barack being Barack." He would have been seen as inarticulate lacking in depth. Of course, if he had been as gaffe-prone as Biden, we wouldn't be talking much about him because he'd still be in Illinois, since he'd never have been elected to the U.S. Senate, much less the presidency.
Now that the stakes are higher, Biden's staff is trying to get him to be more disciplined with his language, but he's apparently refusing. I think this stems from a certain stubbornness and a "I'm gonna do it my way" attitude. Some find that charming and real. But time will tell whether he's right that people won't mind Joe just being Joe or whether it will hurt him in the long run.

We all make gaffes and our candidates are only human. So yes, I could support this idea.
Gaffes are not a reason for me NOT to support a candidate. But they also don't help to enlist my support, especially if they are frequent and ongoing.

No offense to either... but the drama llamas, moths and sea lions are tiring. I do have most of them on ignore, as well. One has over 200,000 posts, and I swear half of them are about Sanders. The inability to let things go is almost pathological.
Any of our candidates are far, far superior to Trump. We are lucky to have such a wonderful bench!

(581 posts)News reporters are magically able to unearth private letters he wrote when Gerald Ford was President, which have been locked up in boxes of Senatorial archives for many years, but a video I unearthed on C-Span, now FREELY AVAILABLE on youtube has received no recognition.
It took me 10 minutes to find that video. Are the media purposefully ignoring it? It's rather relevant given Biden had his record of race under forensic examination yet this video has just 600 views in effectively 4 months.

The pettiness aimed at undermining Biden doesn't advance his opponents, but it sure reads like a headline C&P from Fox News. So as an undecided I get news coverage on Biden along with the customary pile on about his imperfect homilies, but damned little info on any other candidate.

(2,018 posts)The gaffes are serious business. We cant hide from them - they belong front and center in choosing a candidate. Are they annoying and painful? Yes. Thats why we need to talk about them. They will be front and center if he is nominated, in the general election. We can not hide from them.

How Democrats see such episodes is at the heart of the Democratic primary. One side views these sorts of typical Biden campaign-trail moments as evidence of a politician well past his prime casually sexist in a way that might have gone unremarked in, say, 1973 when he first joined the Senate. His supporters see them as good examples of why hes the lovable Democrat best-suited to beat Trump. What is clear is that the critics, who are louder and more visible online and on cable TV, have had absolutely no impact on changing Bidens status as the steady front-runner in the race.
This woke-working class divide is at the heart of the most salient fact about the Democratic primaries: Nothing has damaged Biden. Biden entered the race with about 30 percent support nationally and he has that same 30 percent today.
