Biden campaign says Iowa is not a must-win state

Joe Biden’s campaign on Tuesday said Iowa is not a must-win state on the former vice president’s path to the Democratic presidential nomination and signaled that the campaign is already “ramping up” its Super Tuesday efforts.
...
Still, the campaign downplayed expectations in first-in-the-nation Iowa as well as in the first primary state, New Hampshire, which borders the home states of Warren and Sanders.

It is sort of huge news when the alleged "most electable" candidate concedes the first two primaries.

..."conceded the first two primaries" and unless they make a change, the first is a caucus, not a primary.

And as I pointed out in one of the first two OPs (this is NOT "refighting the primary" ) our last nominee won Iowa by 1/10 of one percent and lost New Hampshire by 22%, nevertheless she persisted and became our nominee.

So why is this "sort of huge news"?

primary today, I would vote for:

Iowa - Biden 26.0, Warren 18.0, BS 14.0, Harris 13.5. Biden gets 59% of the delegates, Warren gets 41%, others ZERO
New Hampshire - Biden 21.0, BS 19.3, Warren 14.7, Harris 9.0. Biden gets 52% of the delegates, BS 48%, others ZERO

Who can't compete?

BTW, the other two early states:

Nevada - Biden 30.0, Warren 15.3, BS 15.3, Harris 8.7. Biden gets 50% of the delegates, Warren and BS get 25% each, others ZERO
South Carolina - Biden 38.0, BS 14.3, Warren 12.7, Harris 12.0. Biden gets 100% of the delegates, others ZERO

Here are the 2nd and 3rd paragraphs, which you skipped:

“Do I think we have to win Iowa? No,” a senior adviser told campaign reporters Tuesday in a background briefing. The adviser said Iowa, which holds the first nominating contest in the nation, will be “critical.”

“We think we’re going to win. We think it’s going to be a dogfight. … But we think there are several candidates in this field, there’s probably three or four, that are going to go awhile.”
