Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar defends moderate stance in a year of progressive energy

MANCHESTER — Democratic Minnesota Senator and presidential candidate Amy Klobuchar’s policy proposals tend to be less expansive than those of her opponents in the presidential primary.

But at a Friday forum before about 50 people at Manchester Community College, Klobuchar said she has as much a claim to the “progressive” mantle as Sens. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren.

“I figure if you’re going to be a progressive, you have to make progress,” Klobuchar said.

She cited her work to pass bills — not just symbolic resolutions — on issues from medication shortages to rural broadband during more than 12 years in the Senate.

moderates don't scare liberals away nearly as much as liberals scare moderates away.
