Kind of scary for those of us who, you know, actually want the presidency, that Bernie could sweep

If the Yougov/CBS poll is correct, Bernie is in a position to sweep 3/4 of the first nominating contests. Leading or tied in Iowa, NH, and Nevada is enough to fulfill our worst nightmares and the GOP's wildest fantasies/dreams. If he sweeps 3/4, he probably sweeps to the nomination by Super Tuesday! Certainly, our base knows Bernie is unelectable and will wake up in time to prevent a Dotard 2nd term!!!

P.S: Dems better destroy this guy at the Sept.12 ABC debate!

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

Unless Republicans become liberals. I don't see that happening. Nobody is considering Dems who live in a red state to be less for being in a red state. I'm saying I don't get excited when a red state supports a Dem candidate because that Dem candidate probably isn't going to benefit from those electoral votes. 101. Well, one could call McConnell's record "consistent." One hopes that a candidate
Fri Sep 13, 2019, 08:42 AM

has the capacity to learn and adjust their ideas when presented with new data.

There is a difference between consistency and a "foolish consistency" and people sometimes forget that.

I mean, even Bernie's view of military use for regime change in Iraq evolved from 1988 to 2003:

In 1998 Sanders voted in favor of the Iraq Liberation Act of 1998, which said: “It should be the policy of the United States to support efforts to remove the regime headed by Saddam Hussein from power in Iraq and to promote the emergence of a democratic government to replace that regime.”

Later that same year, Sanders also backed a resolution that stated: “Congress reaffirms that it should be the policy of the United States to support efforts to remove the regime headed by Saddam Hussein from power in Iraq and to promote the emergence of a democratic government to replace that regime.”

Sanders also voted for the 2001 Authorization Unilateral Military Force Against Terrorists (AUMF), which pretty much allowed Bush to wage war wherever he wanted.

Authorization for Use of Military Force - Authorizes the President to use all necessary and appropriate force against those nations, organizations, or persons he determines planned, authorized, committed, or aided the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001, or harbored such organizations or persons, in order to prevent any future acts of international terrorism against the United States by such nations, organizations, or persons.
States that this Act is intended to constitute specific statutory authorization within the meaning of the War Powers Resolution.

It's strange how that for which he and his supporters are so VERY PROUD, would be something that is so damaging to his candidacy AND to the Democratic Party as a whole.

Fortunately, he won't be our party's nominee... loyal Democrats are looking to nominate another loyal and full-time Democrat. All I'm trying to say is that I expect the person I vote for to be someone who has ALWAYS supported the party and someone who doesn't view Democrats (and the party) with such contempt. --- That's not unreasonable.

103. Some in the GOP are praying for him to win the nomination.
Fri Sep 13, 2019, 08:50 AM

Republicans like their chances of keeping the Senate in 2020. But there’s one thing they think would all but seal the deal: Bernie Sanders as the Democratic presidential nominee.

Some GOP incumbents are practically cheering him on, confident there’s no way a self-described democratic socialist could win a general election against President Donald Trump and that he’d drag other Democrats on the ballot with him.

“It would be good for us to have a nominee like that,” said Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), who is up for reelection next year and sounded downright giddy about the prospect of Sanders representing Democrats at the top of the ticket.

Mon Sep 9, 2019, 09:27 AM

hard fought for Democratic Party legislation that does manage to get through the House, and through the Senate.

I trust all of our large pool of candidates but Bernie to sign legislation, even if it wasn't what they campaigned on, and even if it doesn't meet purity tests but does move us forward. I don't trust BS to do that at all. It is my single biggest problem with ever getting behind him.

If Warren, who wants a MFA bill gets one that is an enhancement to the ACA instead.. I trust that she'll sign off on it.
If Biden, who wants enhanced ACA, not MFA, but actually gets a MFA on his desk to sign off on.. I trust that he'll sign off on it.

Does anyone feel Bernie would do the same?? I sure as hell don't.

I don't want to go through all of this fight to have a POTUS that won't fully work with the Democratic party congress if we do manage to reclaim the Senate, and hold the House.

Any Democratic Party Candidate that will beat Trump BUT Bernie 2020!

Mon Sep 9, 2019, 07:44 PM

Most of the positions the candidates are running on in 2019 (save MFA) are what Bernie ran on in 2016 when it was "pie in the sky" positions.

So yes, when $15/hr minimum wage is passed, he will sign. As parts of the Green New Deal gets passed, he will sign. And yes, if enhanced ACA gets passed that brings us closer to MFA he will sign. That does not mean he won't use his bully pulpit to try and persuade Congress to pass something closer to MFA, but in the end an enhanced ACA that covers more Americans is better than what we have today.

61. Yeah, he'll pass pure bills that you cite.
Mon Sep 9, 2019, 08:03 PM
Sep 2019

However, are you confident he’d pass a $13.00 if that is what makes it through instead?

What if the green new deal that gets passed but removes the elimination of oil subsidies as a compromise, or includes nuclear?

I agree with you that an enhanced ACA that covers more Americans is better, but given his history, what makes you think that Bernie would pass it? Especially if it also passes with congressional concessions to get the roll call vote numbers that includes big Pharma concessions, or larger benefits to huge medical insurance companies? Glad you’re confident. I have no confidence at all in his being willing to compromise to pass marginally beneficial legislation. After all, isn’t it the fact that he’s so unwilling to compromise one of his most touted points?? I don’t find that a strength, I find it a flaw when it comes to a POTUS.

you note the mainstreaming of the Pie in the sky ideas, yet.. which one exactly has exactly come to fruition? Give me an even close to realistic potential 2020 senate roll call vote that would pass any of them.. at all.. as proposed? It doesn’t exist.

The BEST we can hope for given the 2020 Senate map is a Senate that may squeeze few a few impure bills that give marginal progress forward. Bernie is the one candidate I have no confidence in at all to pass these.

Mon Sep 9, 2019, 11:34 AM

What are the chances the Bernie Sanders will faithfully represent the concerns of Democratic rank and file that created the last Platform, (which was the most progressive up to now). So that's my concern. He's included in the debate, and I like a lot of his ideas. But I don't have a good feeling that he would represent the majority of Democratic voters across the country.

that lost, it was not getting that the polling was not enough to take the swing states for granted. We thought it was going to be a landslide and were thinking how to win AZ and GA and took the swing states Obama won for granted. This time, get out the swing state vote and campaign there much harder. Bernie would not win those states even so. He would finally be vetted for real.
