Dallas state Rep. Victoria Neave backs Joe Biden over Beto O'Rourke as Houston debate nears

State Rep. Victoria Neave of Dallas has endorsed Joe Biden for president, joining the growing number of Texas leaders backing the former vice president over favorite sons Beto O'Rourke and Julián Castro.

Neave, the co-chairwoman of the Dallas-area delegation to the Texas Legislature, is traveling to Houston with other North Texans to support Biden at Thursday's Democratic Party presidential debate.

Considered one of the rising stars in Texas politics, Neave was a strong proponent of O'Rourke in his 2018 Senate run against Republican incumbent Ted Cruz.

She said she's backing Biden because, among other things, he wrote the Violence Against Women Act of 1990.

"Out of a field of talented candidates, all of whom I respect and appreciate, it's time to stick my neck out for someone who has been in the trenches fighting for our community for decades," Neave told The Dallas Morning News. "Estoy con Tio Joe."

Neave said Biden was the best choice to beat President Donald Trump.

"In these divided times during which Trump has wreaked havoc, Vice President Biden set the foundation on which together we can shape the future or our great nation," she said.
