Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumI only have ONE question about Pete Buttigieg........
He acts like a candidate.
Why hasn't he declared officially that he's running for the Presidency?

(314 posts)Why didn't he run for statewide office in Indiana?
I think he did run for one office but lost. But still, those who say that O'Rourke should've run for the senate again in Texas should make the same argument for Buttigieg.

The feeling was that he wouldn't do well in his state. So that left him with what he's doing.

(31,261 posts)He is a mayor in a state where the majority of voters elect people that write and approve anti-choice and anti-LBGTQ legistlation. Until more rational voters control election results in his state, he will face difficulty running statewide. It's easier for him to run nationally, given that there are no multi-state regional political offices where he would have a better chance of winning.

(8,196 posts)"Buttigieg explained that he put together his exploratory committee to see what the response would be, and to answer a few important questions before moving forward.
"Would anybody take note? How would the fundraising go? Would there be a level of interest?" Buttigieg said. "Now we're seeing all of those things. But because I'm not highly famous and I'm not personally wealthy, it takes a little bit to get the organization in place for a launch."
"You only get to launch once, and I've got to tell you, I'm not going to make any news this morning. But all of the signs are pointing in the right direction, and when we do come out, it's going to be a big one."

(72 posts)... the more I like him.
He must be feeling quite a bit of pressure to officially launch his campaign yesterday, but he is being sensible (and refreshingly candid) about the scope of the efforts that are necessary for a solid start. He appreciates reality, while also tacitly and quietly acknowledging that people are becoming quite interested in him.
Keep it up, Pete. I'll be here when you're ready.
