Wisconsin 2020: Bernie Sanders Leads Democratic Field

The first Emerson College Wisconsin Poll of the Democratic primary finds Bernie Sanders holding a strong lead with 39% of the vote, followed by Joe Biden at 24%.

In third place, Elizabeth Warren, the only other candidate in double digits, is at 14%. The poll was conducted March 15-17, n=324, +/- 5.4%.

I am able to recognize crappy data. With the total sample size of 324, only around 100 are in the 18-29 age group.

This is mostly a name recognition poll rather than anything useful that can be extrapolated to the larger population. The fact that the only people who responded to this thread before me are Sanders supporters and one undecided who supported Sanders previously doesn't offset the fact that the data is meaningless.

59. Did you notice that in a direct head-to-head matchup with Trump
Mon Mar 18, 2019, 04:43 AM
Mar 2019

that Biden is +8 while Sanders is only +4. O'Rourke is at +2 even though he has never run a national campaign. The results in Michigan are similar to those in Wisconsin. If you want to believe the Emerson polls, then it is obvious that Biden has a much easier path to defeating Trump than Sanders does.

However, since you are putting so much emphasis on Emerson polls you might want to examine the Emerson poll for Michigan that was posted on March 11. The poll for Michigan shows Biden at 40% and Sanders at 23%. Chew on that for awhile and I'll be amused watching you try to spin it since you mentioned observing human nature.

I could provide a statistics lesson on why the Emerson poll is meaningless due to its small sample size, but I'm preparing for a job interview this week. You wouldn't be convinced no matter how much information is presented so it would be a waste of my time. I'll suggest reading up on inferential statistics and hypothesis testing instead.

You are correct that I would be thrilled if O'Rourke had a lead in the polls, but O'Rourke is a relative unknown in most of the country. His trajectory is still to be determined while Bernie has plateaued because he is a known entity. I'm confident that the independent senator from Vermont will not win the Democratic nomination in 2020.

The data that I mentioned can be found at /www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/latest_polls/

and mean very little. Most voters are still learning about the new candidates and don't have firm support for anyone. The polling models are also not that accurate this far out.

At this point in:
2015 Jeb Bush and Scott Walker were leading polls and Trump was at 1%.
2007 Obama was still way behind Hillary.
1991 Bill was at about 5%; Jerry Brown was the frontrunner.

What this shows is how wrong the polls had it, failed to sense what the electorate really was and what it really wanted.

If I were to vote in a presidential

I thought they hated Bernie.

Their theory doesn’t make sense. I guess the people who hate Bernie are the people who never heard of him.

Vermonters are all SOCIALISTS and the state is so WHITE and Bernie is covering up what REALLY happened in that bathroom. REAL Democrats should call for an investigation and see what is under that bandage.SHOWERGATE will be worse than Watergate when the truth comes out. And what about all those lazy, non-voting youngsters Bernie seems to attract? UNICORN-RIDERS, I tell you! All they do is stand around holding up ANTI-ESTABLISHMENT signs! REAL Democrats should ban these dangerous people and not allow them to influence OUR people. They have crazy ideas that go against The Program. We can’t have that, or the whole country might turn into VERMONT! I heard they even force their grade schools to have gardens up there and they probably all have to wear HEMP shirts to go along with their BIRKENSTOCKS! We need an investigation of the ENTIRE STATE! What is a REALLY going on up there?

What kind of state would have Bernie for a Senator?
