Does anyone else like Pete Buttigieg the more he talks?

The more I hear Pete Buttigieg speak with his calm personality the more I like him.

He seems very knowledgeable and is very good at making his point. There is something about him that if he was President I would feel like we are in very safe hands.
If I were to vote in a presidential

And, in answer to doubters upthread, he is a natural leader, he is ready to be president, and THIS is his time. I agree that he will gain steam, as he already is in Iowa and NH.

In addition to all the assets you noted, he has a broader, deeper, and fresher vision, than any other candidate. He also has an almost magical ability to present bold ideas in a way that is unifying rather than polarizing. He knows intuitively how to handle Trump. His deep industrial midwest connection, and his creative ideas for rural communities are additional assets. As are his youth, and a level of emotional maturity that to my mind outshines that of anyone else.

For these reasons, I believe that he is not only our best candidate: he is the most electable.

until the debates get smaller. He expresses his ideas as complete thoughts - the tiny amount of time each candidate gets to address each question will not let him show himself at his best.

IMHO - the man is playing 4-dimensional chess. He adds the dimension of time to standard 3-dimensional chess to reach a depth of understanding and insight that he craves. Seriously - his thesis at Harvard was on expression of Puritan ideas in modern America - and ever since I learned that, I've been seeing the concept of predestination everywhere - the Netflix brief series "The Family" is a stunning example.

30. I Hate To Say This, But I Think Pete Would Be Running Away With This........

..........if he weren't gay. There's are just too many bigots (oh wait, "religious zealots&quot in this country who will refuse to vote for a gay man. Oh, they'll seize on his lack of experience (he's "only" the mayor of a town in Indiana, and has no experience with foreign affairs, federal issues, etc.) as a reason not to vote for him, but deep down, they will all be voting against the gay man.

I think he's supremely qualified and talented in every way. He has great responses for every criticism leveled at him (if only the people who need to hear them would listen--which they won't). He's smart and well versed in policy. He has great ideas and policy positions. He's also attractive and charismatic (which never hurts). And every time I hear him speak I hear a guy who SHOULD be a major contender for President. I just wonder if he's electable.

I think he and Beto are prime candidates as running mates for whoever gets the nomination, but again, I'm worried that if you put Pete on the ticket, the religious wackos will mobilize in force to vote against the gay man (at a time when they might be getting a tad ambivalent about voting, or at least tired of defending the guy who clearly doesn't share their same values).

Maybe I'm wrong, but seeing all the bigotry in this country come out of the closet now that there's a white supremacist in the White House really has me feeling discouraged about the state of this country at the moment.

As a gay man, I hate to say this, but I realize that the general public is just not ready for a Gay President. Nor a gay vice-president for that matter. You'll never get the religious zealots to stand-down on this one. While most have at least one family member who is gay, or transgender, it just won't matter to some. I know it sure as hell doesn't matter to my GOP Parents who the fk they vote for. Even knowing that their votes could potentially harm their own flesh and blood, do you think they'd EVER give up on their 'precious' Republikkan party?

Sadly, our Country has reverted backwards in the past 2 1/2 years, further than I ever thought possible, and in so many ways than I even dare to consider, all because of one small-handed, small-minded, orange tinted azzhat.

Speaking with my neighbors (gay couple a few doors away) this past weekend, we agreed on the 'perfect' Democratic ticket. Joe Biden-Stacy Abrams. Once Joe is in office, watch for him to nominate Mayor Pete as his Secretary of State. Simply put, our Country deserves a Rhodes Scholar as our Secretary of State, not these 'best people' that have inhabited the SWAMP since January 2017.

The first time I heard him (on satellite radio) was likely on MSNBC and I had to stop what I was doing and give him my full attention. I remember Tweeting a few minutes later that I thought he had that "Obama thing". He's an extraordinary speaker. There's much to like. He's a very stabilizing force and he knows what he believes so he rarely has to stumble over his ideas or walk anything back.

54. I think a Amy Klobuchar and Buttigieq would be the "Dream ticket"
Fri Sep 13, 2019, 01:58 PM
Sep 2019

Honestly, anybody on that stage, and most of them that weren't on that stage I am excited about. Anybody with a "D" after their name I would support above this pig soiling our White House presently.

With that being said, I was/am probably a strongest supporter of Biden or Warren. I love Bernie, but he's not as strong in my mind as he was last time around. But after watching the debates last night, and listening to the candidates respond to the shit-flinging fox trolls afterward, I think Amy Klobuchar and Pete Buttigieg would be the winning combination. Warren has TONS of great policies and ideas, and she has an abundance of energy to go with it. But the reality in this country is that even though she is intelligent, approachable and someone most Americans can identify with, I think the simple minded American might be swayed to actually fall for this "Pocahantas crap". It doesn't take much for the morons in our country to chase a shiny object. (just look at dRumpf)

Klobuchar would give us our FIRST WOMAN PRESIDENT...she's strong, intelligent and she is willing to take on most of the ideas of the most progressive. We would lose a Senator from Minnesota is my only reservation. Pete Buttigieg would give us our first openly gay VP, and he could gain some experience and age while serving as the VP. His strong voice would still be present, and hopefully Klobuchar would give him a window to show his skills. Honestly, I think "youth" is a problem running for President, more than age is. It shouldn't be....but I believe it is.

Didn't have this idea until I saw this post and started thinking. Whoever gets the nod had better balance the ticket with minority representation, sexual preference and gender as well as ideas. My two cents worth.

but I also agree with the sentiment that were he a straight man instead of openly gay, he would be much more likely to win the nomination.

There is a lot of residual hate in America - the white supremacists are only a portion of it, though very visible and dangerous. That prejudicial thinking and bigotry is enough to prevent Pete's election at this time, even though I firmly believe he is exactly the kind of leader and has exactly the kind of perspective on the future that this country (and the world) desperately needs.

We're reaching a tipping point in world history once more...every 70-80 years since the Revolution, we have gone through tumultuous times....Civil War, Depressions, World War, Revolutions from Industrial to Electronic, to the present. War is coming again on the current glide path...but a young, energetic, brilliant man - who has seen the face of war up close and personal, with no need for bone spur deferments - could be the kind of person to keep us out of it.

There are two young politicians in the Democratic Party that have my undying loyalty and support right now - they are Pete Buttigieg and Joseph Kennedy III. I would like nothing more than a 16 year span with either or both of them in the White House (as successor or running mate or both).

Fri Sep 13, 2019, 03:15 PM

and that either calls out for a younger candidate for VP. In addition to youth, the VP should add diversity to the ticket. So while it is not the perfect choice I would applaud Biden and Harris or Warren and either Buttigieg or O'Rourke. What I liked is pairing a centrist with a more more left leaning democrat. Biden would require a younger more liberal VP while Warren should choose a younger more centrist candidate. My favorite would be Warren/Buttigieg that would cover the moderate/liberal spread and also with a woman and a gay would be the most diverse slate ever presented. But that's just me and YMMV...

of mine since he's from my home town. He went to the best high school (St. Joe) and his father was a professor at Notre Dame. He's smart as a whip and a Rhodes Scholar after attending Harvard. Impressive! And I read his book and I could follow his writing like I lived in town (but left decades ago). I still have family there. He's got smart genes and has that calm demeanor.

I switched to Warren because his/our home town hates him. They really don't care for his style of leadership and that he's been on the stump for most of this year. They hate that he's not hovering over the town of South Bend every day and blame him for everything that goes wrong. I've read "why doesn't Mayor Pete stop these shootings?" A couple of my friends in South Bend have met him and are impressed with him. It gives me joy to see their facebook posts with them and Pete doing civic duties. I have high hopes for Pete and could kick myself for not meeting him when I was in town last March.
