words than their wealthy peers.

Snip...

Much of this disadvantage has been attributed to what researchers call the “word gap.” Higher-income parents spend nearly a half hour more per day engaged in direct, face-to-face, Goodnight Moon time with their children than low-income parents do, and by the time these children are 5 years old, the poor ones will have heard 30 million fewer words than their wealthy peers...

Because the word gap first appears during periods of critical neurological and cognitive development, its effects cannot be easily remedied by later interventions. Teachers, standards, technology, even those hallowed halls of ivy—none of this matters as much to a child’s educational and economic future than an informed and empowered parent.

Unfortunately, explained Ann O’Leary, Director of the Children & Families Program at Next Generation in a phone call, “there’s a lack of alignment among low-income parents regarding how much talking, singing, and reading to children really matters over a lifetime,” and research backs that up. One study found that low-income parents underestimate their power to influence their children’s cognitive development, sometimes by as much as 50 percent. Wealthy parents spend more time engaged in these activities because they have better access to information, and O’Leary argued that when parents understand the impact they have on their child’s cognitive development, they invest.

That started in 1982, and looked at just 42 families.

Frankly, people pull that study out of their ass to justify punching the poor and the black.

Biden implied that Black families couldn't care for their children without help form social workers, and alluded to, in his incoherent rambling word salad, to a long discredited study about the number of words poor children hear versus middle class kids.

She also plays a recorded lawn mower on her Spotify through her phone when the new baby gets fussy.

ps, Kasie...the recorded lawn mower works like a charm. Also, my favorite lullaby, “Lister to the Horses” by Raffi. I get sleepy just thinking of it.

21. We played Bob Dylan albums to our babies, and all through their childhood.
Fri Sep 13, 2019, 10:11 PM
Sep 2019

One result of that was when we were sitting at the breakfast table and I asked my nine-year-old son the pass the cereal. As he handed the box to me, he said, “Dad you shouldn’t let other people get your Kix for you.”

Years later when my youngest son was a 16-year-old teenager, he said that his girlfriend was a Dylan fan and asked what would be a good CD to get for her birthday. Of course, I recommended Blonde On Blonde as you can never get tired listening to it. Later I asked if she liked it and she did, and he mentioned that although he did not know any of the song titles, he knew all the words to them.
