Sen Gary Peters (MI) on Elizabeth Warren's Health Care proposal...

(from Mike Barnicle on MK):

How would it play in Michigan? The United Auto Workers have the gold standard of health care coverage and would resent having to give it up.

I think this is the core issue: As much as she assumes that people DON'T like their Insurance carrier, IF she can find a way to accept private health insurance IF they want it, she'll overcome a lot of resistance and a lot of the worry that she's too radical to get elected.

The UAW plan is primary coverage. brooklynite Sep 2019 #4
Under her and Sanders' proposal, there is 100% coverage (supposedly) -- no deductibles, copays, etc. Hoyt Sep 2019 #5

The UAW workers' health insurance is the gold standard. We need to see the details.

Currently, If you are on Medicare, you may subsidize your plan with private insurance. Why would it be different if we had Medicare for all?

Perhaps they like both the coverage and the customer service.

And there is dental, vision, etc. No need for supplemental insurance, or unions negotiating for better healthcare benefits unless they want to cover cosmetic surgery, or something.

I'm for a Public Option, as most doable; but, assuming Sanders or Warren could get their plans enacted, not sure why unions would have a gripe.

They'd just shift focus to making sure corporations pay any savings out in wages.
