Joe Biden's sister dismisses calls for Justice Kavanaugh's impeachment

In an interview with CBS News, Valerie Biden Owens — former Vice President Joe Biden's campaign co-chair and younger sister — dismissed calls to impeach Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

"I don't think you'd call for impeachment proceedings because of a story in The New York Times," Biden Owens said.
After The New York Times' report of Kavanaugh was published, Biden released a statement saying "we need to get to the bottom" of Kavanaugh's confirmation process.

"This weekend's report in the New York Times raises again profoundly troubling questions about the integrity of the confirmation process that put Brett Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court in the first place," the statement said.

"We need to get to the bottom of whether the Trump Administration and Senate Republicans pressured the FBI to ignore evidence or prevented them from following up on leads relating to Justice Kavanaugh's background investigation, subsequent allegations that arose, and the truthfulness of his testimony to the Senate."

At least five other candidates — including Cory Booker, Pete Buttigieg, Julián Castro, Kamala Harris, and Elizabeth Warren — have called for Congress to move to impeach Kavanaugh, following a new report detailing allegations of sexual misconduct from his time in college.

Biden Owens expressed support for the campaign's statement calling to do "this the right way" and "follow the evidence to wherever it leads," though noting that she had yet to discuss the topic with her brother.
"I don't think any of us are in a position to point a finger, make a judgment," she said

in November of 16...to the victor go the spoils. And if we waste our time on crap like this ...succeed in destroying Biden...nominate Warren who now advocates MFA- a losing issue for us, we will lose 20 (maybe the house and the presidency) and there will be more Kavanaughs...with lifetime appointments. I will vote for Warren as I voted for Hillary and so will you...but the voters we need won't. If we don't rebuild the blue wall, we have no path to the presidency in 20 or going forward.

the incident?

I'm not defending Kavanaugh, whom I find disgusting.

But even the original story, before the update, didn't justify calls for impeachment, though it certainly justified calls for more investigation. That's what you do with allegations -- investigate.

Biden and Klobuchar were wise not to call immediately for impeachment.

And now you're going after Biden's sister for not jumping on the impeach-Kavanaugh bandwagon?

On the mark!

As to Kavanaugh's sleazy background? From all accounts he had no business being confirmed to SCOTUS. But we lost that battle (remember) and no further action will be taken until Trump and his enablers are kicked to the curb. This is another shiny object to distract us from the real prize: winning in 2020. Because unless we do we'll see more unfit candidates installed into high places of power where the only qualification is loyalty to Trump and his criminal enterprise.

Jumping onto the Kavanaugh impeachment boat at this moment is an appeal to emotion, not reason. Nothing will happen until Trump is removed. This is not rocket science. However, calls for Kavanaugh's impeachment right now? That's political malpractice.

Biden's sister neither said nor did anything wrong.

House Democratic leaders and rank-and-file members are dismissing calls to impeach Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, with some arguing the House has limited investigative resources and others saying it is a politically toxic issue.

Asked on Tuesday night if she sees the House spending any time on the Kavanaugh matter, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi responded with a simple "no."
