My interesting search for where Elizabeth Warren lives.

We live in greater Boston and I thought it would be interesting to find out where she lived. I did find out, with some effort, but encountered some interesting things in the process.

1 - On Google maps, the photo of the address is almost totally obscured by what seem to be blurry street signs very close to the camera. There are no such street signs. Can you petition Google for protection like this?

2 - I found one site which advertised erasing information from the internet using a photo of election rolls with Warren's and her husband's names "covered" by a transparent diagnal sign, suggesting someone had slapped "sold" or "not available" over it.

3 - A "report" circulated that she lived in a 5 million dollar mansion. A debunking article (can't remember where) said that she had valued her house in a financial disclosure form at between 1 and 5 million. It's a VERY narrow victorian with almost no yard. It's three stories but the width of a very large room or two small to medium rooms. One article said it had two bedrooms. It's in a neighborhood where I can guarantee nothing sells for less than a million. But there are no "mansions" anywhere near.

4 - One article that discussed her residence had it at the wrong number on the right street. Another had it on the wrong street. Very odd.

EDIT

Responders seem split between those who share my interest and those who think it's inappropriate to be interested. Here's what I said to one of the latter DUers.

I live in the area and was curious and bumped into some things that I thought DUers might know about. Like masking pictures in Google maps, and like articles making mistakes about streets and numbers. And I didn't post any info about her residence. And I wanted to share what I knew in contradiction of the stupid 5 million dollar mansion rumor. Note that the first reply seemed to have bought into that.

It seems like efforts have been made to preserve her privacy, so I haven't included links. If any other DUers want more detailed info, it can be found.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

...in a modest town. However, because my town was right next door to Santa Barbara, real estate prices are quite inflated. If our house had not been a fixer-upper, we could have gotten $900K for it when we sold.

I know from previous heated discussions at DU that people think money like that will buy someone a "mansion" with hot and cold running footmen and a butler. Someplace. Kentucky? Mississippi? Just not Santa Barbara -- or Boston. Or Silicon Valley, for that matter.

Saying a populist/progressive Democrat lives in a mansion based solely on the lower range of a really broad range of real estate prices in her area is a recipe for scorn and derision against that Dem. Again, based on heated arguments right here, there are people who resent like hell the very idea that any Democratic politician who runs for president would live much better than they do.

Just sayin' words matter.

My 90-something parents, for one thing. I keep having to fly to California for one crisis or another. It's likely I'll be flying out there for an even more somber reason before too long. That gets me a little anxious and worried. Primary politics can't compete with that stuff.

My work, for another. All that gallivanting around is cutting into my available work time.

When I'm not busy, DU is a good place to hang out. When I am busy, I don't spend much time here.

Then there's our Fall clean-up project. I filled a 20-yard dumpster with accumulated stuff. I filled the 96 Ford Ranger we just bought with broken appliances and tech stuff and then with brush and tree trimmings, and took all that stuff somewhere for proper disposal. Hard work for a 74-year old guy. And speaking of that Ranger, it needed a few repairs when I bought it, so I did those in my spare time.

It's a long way until our MN primary in March. Right now, the top three or four candidates are swapping a point or two in every poll, but there haven't been any huge changes. Biden still has a double-digit edge, so what is there to discuss, really? Trump is still an insane tyrant, and there's not a reasonable way to remove him from office before next November.

So, I've only been dropping in on DU occasionally lately.

If I were to vote in a presidential

Joe Biden

I hadn't heard such rumors, frankly, until you told us about them. Still, I'm glad to learn she lives in a hovel, rather than a mansion. Indeed I am.

Still, you can get an estimate of the home's value by searching for the address at Zillow.com. I mean, you went to all that work, and even drove by her home, so you can get the value and maybe make her an offer for it, eh?

I doubt anyone here cares about the value of Elizabeth Warren's house, nor have I seen any statement in that regard on DU. Now, that doesn't mean that someone hasn't made such statements here, but I have not seen them.

I did see your description of the place you think she lives, but disregarded it out of a lack of interest in her dwelling place.

Did you follow my suggest and look it up on Zillow, by any chance? How did that website value it? Since I don't have the address nor want it, I can't look that up, but I assume you can, since you claim to have driven by her house after finding out where it was. Have you considered that your vehicle might have been videoed during your pass-by? If there is a security issue, I'd assume that video cameras are monitoring traffic going by that house.

Not everyone is naive.

https://www.realworldsurvivor.com/2019/05/01/how-to-blur-your-house-on-google-maps/

You'll find step-by-step directions at the link to help you ask and receive a blurring for your home.

Apparently, Google will do that for you on request. Maybe it needs paint or the roof needs fixing and you're embarrassed of it. Maybe you don't want your nosy out-of-state relatives to be able to see how much better you live than they do, so they won't come asking you for money.

Or, maybe, just maybe, you're running for some office and don't really want the wacko nutcases on the right to come peeping in your windows at midnight.

Anyhow, Google will blur it out if you request them to.

I hope that answers your question. I had do to a really complex Google search to find that out. If you're interested, search Google for "blur your house"

Google can answer your question. We can't, in many cases.

I still find your curiosity about where a primary candidate lives puzzling, though.

However, I did find the answer you sought, despite being "sanctimonious," as you so kindly called me.

They were neither addressed to me nor to a DU audience in general. They were, instead, addressed to you, so you'd be the one to answer them, I'd think.

You can find accurate information on any search engine if you structure your searches properly. For example, it took me just one search to find out how to get Google to blur a photo of your own house. The first thing I typed into Google was "blur your house." That simple search returned the information I wanted.

I have no doubt that I could fine Elizabeth Warren's home address equally quickly on Google. However, I'm not interested in her address in any way. I don't care where she lives, nor would I drive by if I knew, unless, of course, she invited me to come to her home.

Again, it is not what search engine you use. It is how you word your search. Some simple searches work well. Others return useless information that does not answer your question. In some cases, you might need Boolean operators to refine your query and cut through the debris that makes up most of the Internet. There are books that can teach you how to do all that.

was hard to find. I googled Elizabeth Warren's home address. The first result was a tax record. The second was a Zillow estimate of the value of her home, which is $3,107,391, which is appropriate for the neighborhood. The blurred street view photo is also there, on the map that shows up for that simple search query.

It wasn't hard at all. Anyone could find it. You have made it seem like a very difficult thing to do, but it's not at all. It required no special knowledge of Google's advanced search techniques, just a simple search in normal English.

I still do not understand why you posted the OP. If anyone could find the information with such a simple search, everyone who wants to know the address can find it in seconds.

I'm done with this thread now.

A few days ago, we applied for a waiver with an agency to not even put the address of a candidate's headquarters onto a public document, but to be able to use a P.O. Box (which for this particular filing is permitted under special circumstances). This is for the safety of the campaign and the candidates and the employees. If they don't even want to give out their HQ address because of safety concerns, you can bet that candidates are using all means to hide the address of where they actually live.

I just did a quick search and it looks like she lives on a street where I owned a one-bedroom condo back in rent-control days. But I wouldnt call it the Brattle St. area so I'm probably wrong.

Hey, I took two 12-year-olds to stake out the gate of a member of NKOTB in the 90's, so I guess I'm a stalker at heart.

I walked to a Warren rally in Cambridge earlier this year and saw her up close and personal. No need to drive by her house.

I absolutely love to see where people live.

I like to picture them in their surroundings.

Maybe I'm just nosy, but when I was a kid one of my favorite things was when we were driving home from Christmas Midnight Mass we could see parents in their living rooms putting together bicycles, hanging stockings, etc. Fun!

It was like seeing a little vignette. Kind of like watching a movie or reading a novel. It's a glimpse into how someone else lives.

I've always been curious about that.

There are some beautiful homes on my route home from commercial centers here. I love it when they leave their curtains open and the lights on.
