job. You used the term to denigrate her.

She is a college professor known for her research (which is well over half of her responsibilities in that role) and teaching top students at one of the most highly regarded universities in the world. The gap between the demands, degree requirements, and actual job duties of her former job and that of someone who teaches elementary school, for example, is huge. If you doubt that society views it that way, ask why she was likely paid 8 to 10 times as much as a “school teacher.”

Would you call Paul Krugman a “school teacher”? Maybe, if you want to minimize his accomplishments. But I have never heard even a critic of him call him that—could it be because he’s male and no one is confusing these jobs in his case?

Teaching is a noble profession, but when you use the “school teacher” label as a negative—exactly as the right wing does—that is a big problem.

dominated. National statistics show that more than 70% of teachers (excluding professors) are female.

As another poster suggested, rather than arguing, why not listen to and learn from women who have experienced and/or studied the phenomenon of putting women down? It’s not an identical example, but if you were to criticize a doctor by saying she seemed like Nurse Ratched, you would be insulting her not only by employing sexist stereotypes and criticizing her behavior that would not be criticized in a male doctor, but also by not respecting the stature of her profession as a doctor. Women deal with this all their working lives, and it should not be acceptable to anyone on a progressive board.

Elizabeth Warren Is the Teacher All the Students Hope to Get in the Fall
The happy warrior goes to the Iowa State Fair.

https://www.esquire.com/news-politics/politics/amp28669312/elizabeth-warren-iowa-state-fair/?__twitter_impression=true
...
But the thing that's sold Elizabeth Warren to Iowa is primarily Elizabeth Warren. None of the candidates seems to be having as much fun as she is. The endless selfies after speeches. The pinky-swears with young girls about how what girls do is run for president. Her willingness to hold town halls anywhere. That loose-limbed, almost goofy wave with which she steps onto every stage. In a gloomy political time, with a humorless sociopathic bully in the White House, and with all the worst impulses of the national Id come out to play, Senator Professor Warren is the campaign's happy warrior, the teacher everybody hopes they get when school starts up again in the fall. People respond to the good feeling around her campaign as much as they respond to the blizzard of policy proposals that campaign has loosed upon the electorate.

manner, and when she is responding, can be affirming as in “that’s a good question!”

Always sounds to me like the good kind of professor trying to get students engaged, sharing her passion, showing an enthusiasm for ideas, in this case, her own plans.

I am not sure if her speaking style is one a wider swath of voters will be drawn to. She is always in
command of her subject matter, but I find that fact, and her authoritative tone, irritating.

The thing is that she’s not dealing with “subject matter” now and she’s not in the lecture auditorium.

45. The fact that Biden leads among AA voters does not mean Warren does not have their support.
Wed Sep 18, 2019, 07:37 PM
Sep 2019

Even if she's not first choice, I don't imagine lots of AA voters voting for Trump or staying home, I think Warren would still get those votes. It's not like black voters don't like Warren, they just like Biden more.
As I posted in another thread recently:

Someone can like multiple candidates, but you still have to pick just one when you vote.

Latest relevant poll seems to be this one:

http://maristpoll.marist.edu/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/NPR_PBS-NewsHour_Marist-Poll_USA-NOS-and-Tables_1909091558.pdf#page=3

Biden and Sanders have 47% favorability among non-white voters (they didn't break out AA specifically), Warren's is right there at 46%. And Warren has more room to go up, because 21% haven't yet formed an opinion about her, compared to only 12% who haven't yet formed an opinion about Biden.

Just because Biden is not someone's FIRST choice when they can only choose one, you can't assume they wouldn't be similarly happy to vote for someone else. Just as I currently list Warren as my first choice, but if it ended up being my second choice Buttigieg in November, I'd be equally enthusiastic to cast that vote.

But context is important. I'm naturally skeptical of polling agencies that seemingly show up out of nowhere with numbers that appear to be out-of-whack from everyone else. I'm surprised they've been around long enough for 538 to rank.

If I were to vote in a presidential

But beware, the headline and OP are misleading, implying that Biden is the only candidate beating Trump in ANY Rust Belt state - he is ahead in all 3 states, where Warren and Sanders are ahead of Trump in 2/3 states, and in Sanders case, by much larger margins than Biden.

Who Said It: Toronto Mayor Rob Ford or Simpsons Mayor Diamond Joe Quimby?

“Yes, I have smoked crack cocaine,” Toronto Mayor Rob Ford told reporters on Tuesday. He then added: “There have been times when I’ve been in a drunken stupor.” The highly quotable Ford has never sounded more like the Simpsons’ fictional mayor, Diamond Joe Quimby. Back in May, Justin Peters put together an extremely difficult Ford-or-Quimby? quiz. Put yourself to the test below.

It's a Fox News poll. What sampling did they use? You see Right wingers who take a poll do a Lewandowski - they lie to the pollster. They want to 1) scare the living pants off Trump supporters so they'll work harder to boost their voters, and 2) build overconfidence amongst Democrats so they won't work as hard, won't donate, won't participate, will figure it's a done deal.

So these polls in my view are deliberately skewed and I would put LITTLE IF ANY stock in them. I thought this was happening in 2016 and I still do, but few if any agreed with my theory.
