(3,666 posts)tax and tame the rich, basically, and all our problems will go away.
Is it really that simple?

(7,510 posts)Warren gave very detailed, knowledgable and well-thought out policy proposals to deal wiht the gross and ever-wosrsening economic inequaliites in this country and what you got from it was a simplistc tax and blame the rich and all our problems will go away"?
Sheesh. It's on again - try listening with an open mind.

(3,666 posts)she said, "I'd be open to that conversation. But I'll tell you want I want. I want to tax the super rich and use that to support things we care about."
Almost an exact quote.
That's what's called dishonest demagoguery. Sorry.
I've got a new principle. My new standard for presidential candidates... complete honesty in policy proposals. In particular, I will only give money to or vote for candidates who are willing and eager to honestly and forthrightly discuss the trade offs that would be required to make their policies reality.
For example, any candidate proposing anything close to European levels of social spending who refuses to admit up front that you cannot have European levels of spending without European levels of taxation will not get my vote or my money.
The candidate has to be willing to say that if that level of social spending means introducing the sort of broad based taxation schemes, including things like value added taxes, that Europeans deploy, fine lets do it! Otherwise said candidate wont get a cent or a vote from me, however much I agree with them otherwise!
Similarly, any candidate who is for single payer Medicare for All and for eliminating private insurance almost entirely, but refuses to honestly discuss the transition costs, wont get a single cent or vote from me, at least not in the primaries.
If that candidate is the last candidate standing after the primaries and I have a choice between that candidate and Trump, well thats a different calculus, obviously. Not that my money or vote will make a huge difference. I have only one vote in one primary and even less money! But perhaps others will join in. Maybe could start a grass roots movement for policy honesty in politics!

Plus Warren is a much better salesperson than Mondale ever was.
He was milquetoast she burns with white hot passion and a searing intellect.
If she added brutal honesty not just about the wealthy but about all of us and what we must do together, she might be my preferred candidate.

(2,275 posts)After seeing her give a major speech I was blown away. I put a handmade sign on my car (all across the bumper) that said "Warren for President" and she hadn't even hinted yet that she was interested.
So glad she is now running --- but also glad to see so many other great candidates who aren't afraid to learn from Warren and other economy-smart folks like Sanders (and gun control gurus like Hillary!)

She's underrated and underappreciated as a candidate. She and Inslee would make a great ticket!!

(28,339 posts)to break up Google, Amazon and Facebook? I like her, I really do, but that was a turn-off for me and I think a complete fail as a campaign issue.

(7,006 posts)Breaking them up is a really good thing. All three of these companies need to experience a 21st Century "Ma Bell" type situation in our humble opinion.

(28,339 posts)None of those qualify, so I disagree. Breaking up companies for being popular is not a really good thing.

(7,006 posts)Facebook and Google take up over 70% of the online advertising marketplace which is a major reason why local news resources (i.e. - Online Newspapers, etc) are cutting employees left and right. Additionally, the decline in Brick and Mortar retail does have a causation effect to the rise of Amazon.
These scenarios are akin to monopolies either at the mid or maturing stage -- and its high time to break these companies up to allow competition in the marketplace.

(3,666 posts)If there are no barriers to entry and if competition is fair mere dominance of an open fair competition is not really monopoly. If I win every game because I work harder in practice, hustle more on the field, and outwit you in coaching strategies, thats not the kind of monopoly that needs breaking up. You just need to make yourself more competitive.
Are google and Facebook just really good at what they do or is the game rigged in their favor? That is the question.

(7,277 posts)With we can undo big mergers that never should have been approved in the first place Elizabeth Warren
Theres your answer. Undo anti-competitive mergers. You dont have to prove a monopoly.
Elizabeth Warren knows this law back to front.

(28,339 posts)"akin" to monopoly ≠ monopoly.
Edited to add: Companies are broken up by courts. Courts operate on facts, not on thoughts, wishes and feelings. Courts require proof that a monopoly exists currently and will continue, not what somebody thinks or feels about what they are "on their way" to doing.

(23,091 posts)Liz has the best policy rx of anyone in the race, IMO. Her wealth tax is just genius! If Joe doesn''t get in the race, Liz may capture my primary vote? Seriously I am so excited for the debates and primaries, so looking forward to hearing all the various people and their ideas to save us from the Nazi movement and policies drumpf is pushing and to move the nation forward rather than the backward direction it's now going in.
