Mr. bear has had nine of the bastards put in over twenty years. I’ve driven behind an ambulance and sat outside the cardiac catheterization lab way too many times. He’s healthy but had a bypass and it’s taken years of intense effort.

Because your experience is the same as this one? I could just as easily counter your husband with my father. Over the past 40 years he's had two stents and a quadruple-bypass, and despite being roughly Bernie's age, he's still going strong. I'm not saying this WON'T end his bid, but so far there is NOTHING to suggest it's over for Bernie.

From his potential voters? Probably some. But I still see Bernie continuing his campaign for some time to come. Probably at least through Iowa and New Hampshire. If he were to come in third (or worse) in both of those states, it's probably over, but that was always the case. Even without this, I've long thought it likely we'd see a Warren-Biden 1-2 in both of those states.

Most patients are quickly up and running better than they have been for some time and, based on info available, he'll be able to continue with whatever he has planned.

Maybe it'll be to once again spend the summer before the GE claiming the Democratic Party is so corrupt that the only choice is to halt the battle against the Republicans on the 40 yard line and turn our focus on de-corrupting our party? After all, in spite of all his nationally publicized noise, we did refuse in 2016. We're still as massively corrupt and betraying of "the peoole" as ever, so that part of Sanders' crusade is still undone.

Or? What else? If nothing else, maybe he'll have enough new energy to do more than recite 40-year-old Sanders dogma and catchphrases.

No, my father is not running for president, but I didn't suggest Bernie's situation was completely like my father's. I suggested that not all situations are the same and that for some people heart surgery does not mean the end of their ambitions. Mr. Bear's history has been on the more debilitating side doesn't mean any more about how to assess Bernie's situation than does my father's relatively healthy history (for a heart patient). But thanks for emphasizing my point.

Recovery from angioplasty and stenting is typically brief. Discharge from the hospital is usually 12 to 24 hours after the catheter is removed. Many patients are able to return to work within a few days to a week after a procedure.

Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign says the Vermont senator had surgery Tuesday to insert two cardiac stents.

According to a statement by senior advisor Jeff Weaver on Wednesday:

“During a campaign event yesterday evening, Sen. Sanders experienced some chest discomfort. Following medical evaluation and testing he was found to have a blockage in one artery and two stents were successfully inserted. Sen. Sanders is conversing and in good spirits.

He will be resting up over the next few days. We are canceling his events and appearances until further notice, and we will continue to provide appropriate updates.”

There is certainly a concern about age in general (cue Biden defenders and a certain element of anti-Biden voters), and age AND health issues is a bad combination for wary voters. I'm just saying there's no reason to suspect this will outright end it.

He did get up and has led an active, normal life. He’s also had nine. He’s got nitro in his pocket and takes drugs that he has to be constantly monitored for. He travels a lot, does jiujitsu and every now and then I find myself either hauling him to the ER or following an ambulance. Bernie’s experience may be far different but perception won’t be.

The statement suggested that they were waiting for more tests. The stents could easily be a first step with more significant treatment ahead.
I think it's too early to assume anything. I think he has supporters who are feeling anything from optimistic to anxious and maybe still very confident. I respect those feelings because I know what it is like to invest time and emotional energy in a candidate.
For their sake, I hope we see the best possible outcome.

https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/bernie-sanders-78-canceled-events-notice-hospitalized/story?id=66003850

Sen. Bernie Sanders, 78, was hospitalized in Las Vegas, Nevada.

"During a campaign event yesterday evening, Sen. Sanders experienced some chest discomfort. Following medical evaluation and testing he was found to have a blockage in one artery and two stents were successfully inserted. Sen. Sanders is conversing and in good spirits. He will be resting up over the next few days," said Sanders’ senior adviser Jeff Weaver on Wednesday in a statement. "We are canceling his events and appearances until further notice, and we will continue to provide appropriate updates.”

ABC News first learned from officials about the Vermont senator being hospitalized after his plans to attend a presidential gun forum changed. He is one of three septuagenarians in the Democratic primary, and the oldest. If elected he would be the oldest president to serve.

Sanders last public campaign event was Tuesday night in Nevada.

nomination. It has.

It doesn’t matter that the procedure is common, or that most people recover and lead better lives. This is a presidential election run, with all of the leading candidates in their 70s. Age and health has been the elephant in the room. Well, that elephant just had a spotlight put on it. To not talk about it would be more damning than to address it. This will directly impact Sanders candidacy and will most likely impact to a lesser degree the campaigns of Biden, Warren and even tRump.

for a heart attack.

This is no bullshit. Within two days after her heart attack she had more energy than she had in years. It ended up being a pretty dramatic increase in her quality of life. Zero limitations were placed on her. That was at 72 years old. Now at 75 she feels amazing.

I don't know how the image itself will play out or exactly what happened but there is a chance this will actually give him more energy and drive.

I also want to add that Sanders has been sick lately. While more common in women, heart attacks often present themselves like a cold or flu. It's not uncommon for someone elderly to be walking around after having a heart attack for weeks thinking that they are simply under the weather. Again, much more common in women than men. Still, worth mentioning that Sanders seems to have been "sick" lately.

Whistling past the graveyard (if you'll pardon the expression) really does nothing to change the severity and seriousness of any invasive procedure like this. I know it's frightening, but the best way to deal with one's fear of what's dead ahead and unavoidable is to just admit it and to be brave (and informed) no matter how dreary things may appear to be.

It really serves no good purpose for anyone to try and deny that there's a serious underlying condition. It's obviously not just going to just go away magically when stents are inserted. Heart disease progresses slowly and cumulatively... there has been damage, we just don't know how much... but if it was enough to cause chest pains, and if it was enough to warrant this emergency procedure, then it must have been pretty damn serious.

Listen, all I'm trying to say is that there's a BIG difference between having a positive outlook and being in some sort of aggressive denial about things. Try to be brave.

there is no reason it should end his campaign. My dad had two bypass surgeries (one in his 40's the other in his early 60's) and had several stints over the years (both between the bypasses and after the 2nd one). Until his 2nd bypass he was able to work. After he still did part time work and volunteered and that was with at least two massive heart attacks which damaged his heart considerably. Assuming Sanders did have a heart attack, and it sounds like he didn't, then I don't see why this would end his campaign. He will feel much better post stent.
