Saint Beto

To tell the truth, I am relieved. Beto is too pure, too idealistic to be a candidate. He can do more good for this country as a civil rights leader. He has a very promising future ahead of him. Carry the dream, Beto! I have faith in you!

Oh, and you will note that I am now an Elizabeth Warren supporter. Let's hear it for the next POTUS, Warren!

Joe Biden

However, I will remember all of the people here that did everything possible to tear down Beto.

You certainly took it hard whenever Beto received any praise and were one of the first people to jump on those threads to indicate your disapproval.

I found his history of trying to tear down a poor Latino neighborhood to build a Walmart a disqualifier for me.

Interestingly enough, I’ve disagreed with supporters of other candidates, but only Beto supporters seemed to go personal.

Two I remember in particular, both no longer members here, who attacked anyone who dared to say anything about Beto they didn’t like. Others were attacked worse than me, for less.

I think I said he was nothing like Bobby Kennedy. I still say that. But not sure why his supporters take that so personally.

And here you are. I never said anything bad about him except to ask how anyone could support him with that Walmart debacle in his background.

I didn’t have to tear him down. I knew what was going to happen, and it did.

Sorry you’re taking it so hard. I don’t invest that much emotion into any candidate. But, that’s just me.

Where have you been? I've seen supporters for the other candidates go personal and I was the recipient of some of those attacks. Selective memory, perhaps?

BTW, I don't believe the financial plans that Warren has made for her wish list of goodies will ever be accepted by voters. Trillions of dollars in tax increases that will never be passed by Congress. Without the money her plans will go nowhere. Since that is the case and since I do not view Warren as a viable candidate in the Rust Belt states, at least I know that I shouldn't invest any emotion into her candidacy if she becomes the nominee.

The way I look at it, the Democrats lost 38 electoral votes and as many at ten congressional seats for the next decade. We probably also lost any chance to retake the Texas House which means the districts will get gerrymandered again. There is no joy in Mudville, oops Texas, with Beto exiting the race. However, I don't want or need your pity.

I guess I’ve only been attacked by the supporters I mentioned...the ones no longer on this site.

I’ve even spoken about Bernie, whom I’ve never liked - but his supporters haven’t gotten personal with me. Sorry others have gotten personal with you, but hey, people often give what they get.

Beto has left the race. Really nothing to be this exercised about. He wasn’t going to bring us Texas. And with his recent stance on “confiscation,” he may have done more harm than good there. But, it really doesn’t matter anymore. Nothing to worry about.

As far as Warren, she’s the one I chose for my candidate of choice on this forum. But I like Biden, Buttigieg, Harris, Klobuchar, and a couple of others. Perhaps Warren won’t be the nominee. Perhaps she’ll drop out. I sure won’t attack another candidate if she does, as you did earlier. Why should I? I’ll be happy with whomever we nominate.

Perhaps your life is difficult right now; I don’t know. I just can’t imagine being that upset over a candidate’s withdrawal. He’s a rich guy with a nice family. He’s gonna be fine, don’t you worry.

Take care now. Hang in there.

Beto/St George the dragon-slayer or something like that. Because if not, this is downright creepy.

That being said, it gave me no joy to hear O'Rourke was bowing out. The press did Beto no favors at the beginning and he just wasn't able to recoup from the hits. He made mistakes as well but all candidates make mistakes. For whatever reason, Mayor Pete ate Beto's lunch during those debates.

Still, I think he has a future in the Democratic Party if that's the direction he wants to turn his energy. His turnout in Texas last year was indeed bordering on the miraculous.

But canonization? I don't think so.
