RALEIGH -- Democratic presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren has supported focusing U.S. deportation efforts on criminals and national security threats rather than all immigrants in the country illegally.
At a rally Friday in Raleigh, Warren went farther, saying she would be open to a moratorium on deportations.
I am open to suspending deportations particularly as a way to push Congress for comprehensive immigration reform, Warren said. She said she believes that when ICE comes into our communities, takes our neighbors, our friends, our family members, that they do not make this country safer.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement and U.S. Customs and Border Protection should be focused on real threats from terrorism, contraband, and the shipping of deadly narcotic drugs like fentanyl, Warren said.
Tearing families apart is not that, Warren said.

a sure way to lose.
People keep telling me how smart Warren is, but all she's doing at this point is painting herself into a corner on these issues. If she were to become the nominee, I think we would lose the House along with the WH.

It's like all of the stuff that the right usually lies and tells people we want to do, she's making her campaign platform.
Open borders, amnesty, socialism. The general population doesn't want this stuff and if we go down this road we are going to hand Trump another 4 years and likely the chance to replace one if not two more liberal SC justices. Kiss any liberal initiative goodbye for a generation if that happens.

(31,261 posts)People that have worked here for years and have not caused problems, have jobs and are paying taxes should get cards that allow them to stay here. They can apply for citizenship, but I think that a small "fine" should be assessed and they have to start at the back of the queue for citizenship. The fine should be something that they can reasonably afford and they should be allowed to get an installment payment plan if they need to (paid ONLY to the US treasury, not third parties).
