Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumCalifornia Dems question whether it's time for Harris to drop out
PoliticoWith California polls strongly suggesting she might not win, place or even show in her home state, many privately expressed the view that Harris should begin seriously considering leaving the race to avoid total embarrassment in the states early March primary. Her continued weakness in the presidential contest could even have a more damaging effect, several said encouraging a primary challenger in 2022, when Harris is up for reelection.
I dont think she can last until California, says Garry South, a veteran strategist who has advised Newsom and former presidential candidate Joe Lieberman. I dont wish her ill, but shes got a decision to make: you limp in here and get killed in your home state, and it damages your reputation nationally. Or you pull out before the primary like Jerry Brown did in 1980 and you at least avoid the spectacle of being decisively rejected.
Candidates have until late December to formally pull their names off the March 3 primary ballot in California. But some suggest Harris can withdraw from the presidential contest after Iowa if she fares poorly there which would leave her on the California ballot, but enable her to justify the acute embarrassment of a distant finish in California by having left the race weeks beforehand.

(628 posts)along with several of the candidates ( Klobuchar, Booker, Gabbard) they have no real shot and the debate stage has too many
Its crazy what happen to Harris campaign. When she announced she was my first choice out of the gate. But for what ever reason and Im not sure why I switched support and now she is like 5th in my personal order.

(581 posts)Urged on by the media to jump in the race. Treated as a real contender to begin with. Then after building her up they knocked her down.
Tulsi's attacks in the second debate were distortions and some outright lies. Kamala made a mistake not responding directly but you know, everyone else just stood and watched. Because they feared Kamala after what she did to Joe in June. Tulsi knocked her down a peg and everyone is grateful.
Also she was vague on her idea of Medicare For All and got criticised for flip flopping. But hey...two of the four frontrunners have subsequently flip flopped and it's crickets. Pete was for it before he was against it and Warren literally said "I'm with Bernie" on the stage only to take a path Bernie has criticised.
I have more faith in Kamala sharing a debate stage with Trump than our frontrunners because she excels in that cross examination environment. I think it's a damn shame she has been ignored.
