Who Won The Fifth Democratic Debate?

https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/democratic-debate-november-poll/

Nate Silver & Co. weigh in.

There's no editorializing, simply pre- and post-debate results.

Another Democratic debate, another poll! We once again partnered with Ipsos to track how Wednesday’s debate, hosted by The Washington Post and MSNBC, affected likely primary voters’ feelings about the candidates. The FiveThirtyEight/Ipsos poll, conducted using Ipsos’s KnowledgePanel, interviewed the same group of voters twice, on either side of the debate, to capture both the “before” and “after” picture....

primary today, I would vote for:

I sooooo appreciated that Harris responded to that creature Gabbard who was attacking the Democratic Party and Hillary Clinton...

Nothing happened that will change the direction of this race in my estimation.

Somewhat depressing to see some of our candidates spend so much time trying to knock others down.

That's a bad path forward.

Personally, I think he didn't help win over people who worry that he's off his game and that his age may be a factor..

Mayor Pete and Andrew Yang.

Box Score:

A : Buttigieg, Yang
A- : Harris, Sanders
B+ : Warren
B : Booker
B- : Biden, Klobuchar
C- : Steyer
D- : Tulsi

* Buttigieg struck on one key point that, as he noted, has been largely swept under the rug: "The President had to confess in writing, in court, to illegally diverting charitable contributions that were supposed to go to veterans." Many Democrats will agree that the country needed to hear somebody on a national stage emphasize that important point.

But Buttigieg was not a one-trick pony. Far from it. Let's examine his defense. He smoothly reframed the attacks that were leveled at him so that they played to his advantage.

* That said, I dare you to find a bad answer from Andrew Yang in last night's debate. Hint: You won't.

* Gabbard had a good answer on the reform needed in the criminal justice system, but then mistakenly pivoted from it to preaching about treating people with respect. She should have stayed on topic.

Buttigieg went in as the new "frontrunner", didn't get beaten up and didn't stumble on his own.
