Mark Shields on Pete Buttigieg

I do think that Buttigieg is interesting.

Why the dog didn't bark in the house is why the Democrats — leaders did not — had they not seen the polls that showed that Pete Buttigieg had surged in New Hampshire and was now in the lead in Iowa?

Why they didn't go after him.

And I think there's a certain reluctance.

The litany of sins in the Democratic Party is to be sexist, misogynistic, homophobic, xenophobic, whatever. And I think they walked very, very gently around the fact that he's the first openly gay candidate and they're reluctant to go after him.

Interesting number. David cited a number. When asked, would you be comfortable with a gay commander in chief, openly gay commander in chief, 50 percent of voters say , yes, they would. A little over a third say they wouldn't.

But they ask the same question, do you think your neighbor would be, 25 percent think their neighbor would be comfortable with a gay, openly gay…

And almost half say they wouldn't.

So it's a question of, of course, I'm magnanimous, open-minded, large-minded, but it's that mean-spirited guy next door.

Brooks and Shields are sooooo irrelevant. Unless you are like 80 and still have a VHS player, no one cares what these dinosaurs think

My husband is 80 years old and very sharp, and I am not far behind him, either in age or in sharpness.

Shields and Brooks are excellent commentators; they see the long view of history.

You might consider my comments as worthwhile as you get older, too.

I am 23 and sources of wisdom come from across the age spectrum

I love getting first-hand experiential primary source material from many of the elders in our societies

We'll see.

I'm not worried at all about him being openly gay. We've got Polis in Colorado and he's doing some great things.

And, every time I hear him speak, I like him better. After Warren, he's my strong second choice. But then, I would back Biden, Bernie, Klobuchar, Harris or Booker.

Not so sure about Gabbard. Being a Democrat still, I mean. She's too isolationist, I think, though she is making some good points against the MIC that Ike warned us about so long ago. But she's throwing the baby out with the bathwater because we cannot abruptly turn all our swords into plowshares. Reductions need to happen over time, and retraining programs, along with good economic development strategy are indicated, or else too many people will lose jobs too quickly. And DoD jobs tend to be good jobs with good pay and good benefits. This is why I think Gabbard is a one-note singer at a time when the aria must range in two octaves.

primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden
