I guess it's Pete Buttigieg's week in the barrel.

"He's a racist! And a warmonger! And a capitalist pig!"

God fucking damn it. If pro-choice, pro-green energy, pro-DACA, pro-union, pro-LGBT, pro-public option, pro-prison reform Pete Buttigieg is the enemy, we are never going to win anything.

It is unbelievable the caricatures many on this board make of some of our candidates. For some, Elizabeth Warren is apparently too corporate because she says she believes in markets or because she was a registered Republican 76,000 years ago. Go figure.

In Pete Buttigieg, we have an articulate, youthful veteran, progressive on all the major issues, and with the courage to run as an openly gay man. And people on a Democratic board think, "Let us DESTROY this man." For instance, instead of having a nuanced discussion about race and positing that perhaps black voters may prefer Biden (for whatever reasons) but may come around to Buttigieg if he were to be the nominee, we look at his low polling data with black voters and then deliberately seek issues to shoehorn into some narrative of Pete Buttigieg being problematic.

This is why we can't have nice things.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

I do very much appreciate your supportive post! I think he's the best candidate (obviously!) but of course he has flaws.

We all do, and so do all the candidates.

It is his turn in the barrel, and it will pass. I hope so much that he will be our candidate, but time will tell.

I don't know what goes on in the minds of those who attack him, both here on DU and out in the political world. Their day will pass and I hope Pete will gain.

We may yet be able to have nice things!

This is actually a good thing. It’ll show many others how well he can handle himself. If he couldn’t handle it, I wouldn’t be supporting him to beat trump.

Pete is now at 22% in NH, - 4% behind Bernie - according to Emerson College (A-) Poll of Likely Voters …..Biden and Warren tied at 14% ……..He is doing fantastically well in the two key early states ..If he wins both , he may snag the nomination ...He started out as an asterisk in the polls …. Be Happy

but he has handled it with grace and cool.

Mayor Pete’s response: Write a vicious article about me and call me a motherfucker, then I’m going to call you up to talk about it.

Mayor Pete’s response: Call me “Mayo” Pete and I’ll continue to roll out progressive policies.

Mayor Buttigieg has proven he can fend for himself.
This week shall pass, like California Peggy said. I’m not worried about him.

I don’t believe 1996 was quite 76,000 years ago. It was 23 years ago.

I am a year younger than EW, but by 1996 I had already been a registered Democrat for 25 years. So I remember that particular timeline and the events that occurred in the 70s, 80s, and early 90s, not to mention the 60s. Don’t make me several millennia older than I am.

But my father was a republican. Navy service in wwll and a military contractor as a civilian. (He saw the light one month before he died, hoping to cast his first democratic vote against Reagan) How you start is not the point, it's where you are now. And I am a millennium old.

cats push them off tables and counters, or shred them with their little claws.

Sorry. That was a joke.

We just put up our tree for Christmas and our little Siamese cat actually got up IN the tree and perched himself on the branches. Not good. So we had to get some orange citrus air freshener and spray on the tree skirt and in the places on the tree where the cat rested.

It worked. The little fellow crinkled his tiny nose and strutted away, tail straight up in the air. Geez.

As to Buttigieg, he'll weather it. I agree with you about his merits. I believe nearly all of our candidates, including Buttigieg, who is my second choice behind Warren, could beat Trump.

If he's on the KY primary ballot I will be voting for him. I will, of course, vote for whoever the Dem is that ends up on the Presidential ballot, but so long as Pete has a chance, I'll be supporting him. He listens, he thinks, he talks in complete sentences, and he's intelligent.

Joe/Pete would be a great ticket. Pete isn't perfect, but he's close.
