Kudos to Michael Harriott for raising uncomfortable questions and kudos to Mayor Pete for reaching

out to him and trying to answer them and not trying to play victim.

Short version: why is "listening" as much as we can ask of a white man, while Kamala gets raked over the coals for not having personally solved the problem of mass incarceration?

Whew chile! I'm not easily impressed by predictably clever damage control like y'all are. What's striking though is the obscene double standard that DEMANDS Kamala move heaven & earth, yet "all you can ASK a vvhite man to do" is listen.

Mayor Pete is constantly being pilloried for not having solved police brutality. I am pretty sick of hearing how Pete is getting some sort of free ride.

He's not being criticized for "not having solved police brutality." He's being criticized for how he's personally handled both a pattern and specific instances of police brutality on his watch in the police department he's responsible for overseeing. That's a very different thing.

It's ok to criticize with facts. So try sticking to facts.

“As she said at the time, Senator Harris was shocked and troubled by the use of this argument. She looked into it and directed the department’s attorneys not to make that argument again,” said spokesman Ian Sams. “Her office, on behalf of the state corrections’ department, then came to the table with the plaintiffs’ representatives to negotiate an agreement, which the court subsequently approved, that led to an expansion of the 2-for-1 credits.”

I’ll give Pete kudos for stepping up to this guy, but no kudos to anyone who calls a Dem a “lying m-effer.”

because I'm old and white and basically pretty clueless; although I want to be an ally I don't quite know how to do it effectively. I don't want to seem condescending, or whitesplaining by offering an opinion about what should be done. Buttigieg acknowledged that he was on the wrong track and knows that it's essential to listen. When he called Harriot and didn't try to make excuses was at least a good start. I'm glad he did that; I don't know how many other politicians would have handled the situation as well. https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/pete-buttigiegs-remarkable-moment-of-grace/2019/11/27/549ecda6-1137-11ea-b0fc-62cc38411ebb_story.html
