Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forum"Its so easy to screw with the Democrats"
How many times have all of us heard this over the years.. its a mantra the right repeats and repeats and the left falls all over its self to fulfill their screed..
Seriously folks.. I have been on this site for almost 11 years and every time, and I swear every time we come to elections.. people fall all over themselves to demonize other Democrats and a number of them walk away to vote for the republicans if their candidates do not win
And if you bring it up that this keeps happening.. they will swarm you , and that you are trying to push party loyalty.. they are so above that don't you know.. trust me.. just watch this..
You may not care for another candidate.. and it is perfectly good and preferable if there are issues that they be pointed out.. but when you start seeing right wing sites and talking points being used.. just beware..
Honest to Pete the last thing I want to see in August of 2020 is the supporters of one candidate being delegated to a room to even post information on meetings because the swarm will come after them

(7,277 posts)quite unlike the PUMA/Clinton situation after 2008, or the Deniacs after 2004. The difference is Democrats feel they are being challenged and attacked from the outside, and if Sanders fails to win the nomination, will stay outside.

(7,142 posts)with that said, I think it is a mistake for people here to speak negatively about any of our candidates. Every one of our candidates has a skeleton or 2 in their closet. Who decides where we draw the line? Who is the next Democratic candidate that we shouldn't vote for?
The only way we lose in 2020 is if we fight among ourselves.

(7,277 posts)for the progressive platform adopted by many of the candidates in 2020. I appreciate what he means by socialism - that healthcare, a living wage, affordable housing and higher education are human rights - a vision espoused by Truman in the Fair Deal. I just wish he hadnt run again.

(7,142 posts)I even go farther. If you see issues in another candidate you better damn well be sure that those issues are real.
People still believe that Hillary and Podesta ran a sex ring in the basement of a pizza shop that didn't have a basement.
Why can't we just be positive about the candidate we like? I see no problem in saying so and so is not my #1 choice, I don't consider that negative. If I say that so and so is too far to the right to suit me, that's just my opinion. So and so may not be too far right for the majority of Democrats.
I am not afraid to admit that I was fooled by some issues that came from Russian trolls and bots that were posted on social media. We also have domestic right wing trolls and bots to worry about.
I'm sorry but I admit that I am not smart enough to weed out all of the propaganda that is going to saturate us in 2020. The only solution for me is to ignore the negativity and only be positive.
Good luck to "all" of our candidates, whoever wins will be the best person to save our democracy.

Im trying to remain positive. But sometimes what I think is positive or factual will make someone else angry.

(14,570 posts)I think all of us learned a lesson after that bitter 2016 fight.
We've had two horrible years of appalling corruption with Trump's treasonous wrecking crew tearing everything down. The latest with restricting federal funds to entities that even refer people to abortion services.
No - my 18-year old cat would be a better president than Trump, and he's getting senile. No matter who the Democrats run, we've all got to fervently support them and work hard to get out the vote.

(32,620 posts)Asking questions and disagreeing with a candidate's position, that's what the primaries are all about. It doesn't mean someone is "trashing" your candidate, it means they're still undecided and open to debate.
We have to respect each other, and allow for personal differences. More importantly we need to realize that we're all in this together. This is how we carefully select the right person (man or woman) to be our standard bearer in 2020. Once that person is chosen - full steam ahead. We will ALL support the Democratic nominee, and we will all work for the victory of our Party.

(14,169 posts)Who are, by all intents and purposes, viewed as Democrats on this site. I am speaking of Sanders of course.
Because you just know that there is a poster who will, or is damn tempted, to post the tired old "But Bernie is not a Democrat!" (So I can screw with him all I fucking want!)
Even though many of Sanders past supporters now would like him to bow out for new blood, including myself, I wonder if these provocateurs even understand how it hurts and divides the base who at one time were 48% for Sanders during one point in the last primaries. They are still here. And some of the juvenile petty smears on him don't reflect well on the site as a whole.

(2,331 posts)I'm no fan of Bernie Sanders and I supported Hillary.
There was a real anger that the economic recovery over the past 8 year didn't rise all boats. A good portion of that blame goes to republicans taking office in 2011 in congress but it was the reality. Trump was spewing populistic anger and racism in swing states where this was felt the hardest and Hillary made assumptions about the obvious unfitness for office about Trump that negatively effected her campaign.
2008 was brutal. There will be 3 3/4 year of Trump being President to run against in November 2020. If after that people stay home it isn't the competitive primary it is the candidate didn't do their job forcing the President to defend his record.
