Brown, Rubio trade barbs over 'dignity of work' as Brown mulls presidential bid

Sens. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) and Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) traded barbs Thursday over Brown's "dignity of work" mantra.

The feud came as Brown, who is said to be considering a presidential bid, continues his "Dignity of Work" tour that began in Cleveland and will take him to Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada — four critical early primary states.

“For all work to have dignity, we must: Raise the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour. Ensure workers are paid the overtime they earn. Pass equal pay for equal work laws. Make it easier for workers to join a union,” Brown tweeted Thursday morning.

“True dignity of work isn’t achieved by just using government to command that low-paying jobs get more pay & benefits," Rubio responded shortly after.

So Rubio, you're claiming that:

True dignity of work isn’t achieved by just using government to command that low-paying jobs get more pay & benefits. It is achieved by having policies that promote the creation of private sector jobs where the workers increased productivity results in higher wages & benefits.

WRONG!

You've been in Congress long enough by now, and thus see that wages and salaries have been fixed at the same level for quite a long time and really have not move in any significant way upwards for quite some time. Literally for decades.

Why not? The economy has boomed, the stock market is at its highest levels in quite some time (Obama recovery still continuing), and the number of jobs have increased, as well as the size of this economy. The number of millionaires and billionaires has certainly increased but not the middle class. Seems like all of the benefits you republicans passed went to the 1%ers, and not us everyday Americans.

I don't see businesses running out there either to increase wages. As a matter of fact, the recent passage of the 2017 tax cut and jobs bill, guaranteed to put over $4000 in every family's pocket didn't materialize as you promised and only a few got a pay raise perhaps in the immediate year following the passage of this bill, but nothing afterwards.

However, inflation is out there. Prices keep increasing on just about everything. You keep talking and talking and nothing still gets done. Figures. I know your kind and the kind of scam you all are running.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden
