Is Pete Buttigieg a Political Genius? The New Republic By ALEX SHEPHARD March 29, 2019

https://newrepublic.com/article/153424/pete-buttigieg-political-genius

"But Buttigieg has an uncanny sense of public opinion—or he’s done his research."

"This remains Buttigieg’s message through today: that a midwestern Democrat attuned to struggling voters in “flyover” country is best positioned to lead the party post-Trump. It is Buttigieg’s luck that he happens to be the only such Democrat in the race right now—but his guile got him here."

Just a few days ago, another Democratic candidate expressed how they were enjoying campaigning because it gave them a chance to get out and talk to "the people".

Buttigieg strikes me as a person who has been going out and talking to "the people" his entire political career as a smaller city mayor and maybe all his life. His anecdotes as mayor reek of it. To some extent, Buttigieg is the way he is because the people around him shaped him to be that way. He listened to them.

Now, a person like Buttigieg has to have the personality to be malleable. He seems genuinely interested in people, receptive to learn and open to new ideas or outside the box solutions. Maybe some of it is his younger age - he's young enough to still be very curious and not set in his ways.

He has a nice way of speaking to people. He seems honest but doesn't trash Republicans in a nasty way. He'll defend his policies because he's thought them through (like Obama) and can stress their strengths without getting mean about the other side.

I think that combination along with his disarming intelligence, empathy and integrity appeals and seem fresh compared to most politicians.

I'm still trying to figure him out but that's where I am so far.

It almost doesn't matter if he's a "political genius" or something else. He has a certain intelligent charm that makes us want to listen to what he has to say.

More power to him!

If a young, gay, small city mayor can actually become president, he is a political genius. If such a person gives it try at least 10 years before anyone thinks he should, he has a unique, well-planned strategy that has not been done before.

You can think of him like a young physics genius who solves a problem that eluded much more experienced physicists. Well, he hasn't quite solved it yet, but if you give him another 20 months, he just might.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden
