Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumJust Changed My Preference from Undecided to Joe Biden
To be honest? Joe Biden has always been at the top of my list because I think he gives us the best chance of knocking the Trumpster and his enablers out of orbit.
Why now?
The incoming political attacks from the Left & the Right which only underscores the threat that a Biden presidential run really represents to other candidates but more importantly to Trumplandia. Of course, I could change my mind; there are several other candidates I could easily support. But none with the knockdown power of a Joe Biden.
So for now? Joey B and his extensive experience in domestic and foreign policy is my main guy.
Biden 2020!

(7,596 posts)He's near the bottom of my list.
I was around in 2007 and NO ONE back then was excited about him running for president. He was seen as a walking gaffe machine who voted for the Iraq War. None of that's changed just because he's now tied to Obama.

We really don't have time to afford someone a learning curve. Normally I wouldn't even care about that but have you not noticed that we have the most corrupt shaministration in the white trash house trying to dismantle our institutions?
Have you noticed it's NOT 2007? The gaffe machine is what makes him so endearing and HUMAN.
Joe will know how to put humpty back together again. GO WITH JOE.

(25,183 posts)Its funny to see an Inslee supporter questioning Biden's experience. I used to live in WA state for 37 years, ending in 2007, and frankly, I didn't know what Jay Inslee looked like before his campaign launch this year. And I still have a fair amount of family and friends back in WA.

(108,977 posts)In the past when people have referred to those with experience in how to govern, they've been talking about Governors.
People in the Senate and House have had experience in representing constituents, but not necessarily in the management side.

His 36 years in the Senate, first elevted at the age of 29.
He concentrated on budget and infrastructure and Foreign Affairs. His work in the Senate prepared him. I have an idea President Obama relied on him for many things.

(6,537 posts)Heraclitus of Ephesus (/ˌhɛrəˈklaɪtəs/;[1] Greek: Ἡράκλειτος ὁ Ἐφέσιος, translit. Hērákleitos ho Ephésios; (c. 535 c. 475 BCE) was a pre-Socratic Greek philosopher, and a native of the city of Ephesus,[2] then part of the Persian Empire. He was of distinguished parentage. Little is known about his early life and education, but he regarded himself as self-taught and a pioneer of wisdom. From the lonely life he led, and still more from the apparently riddled[3] and allegedly paradoxical[4] nature of his philosophy and his stress upon the heedless unconsciousness of humankind,[5] he was called "The Obscure" and the "Weeping Philosopher".
Heraclitus was famous for his insistence on ever-present change as being the fundamental essence of the universe, as stated in the famous saying, "No man ever steps in the same river twice"

(10,828 posts)My main criterion is electability, beating Donald Trump and putting Trumpism in a deep, deep grave. I think Joe Biden can win on both those scores, particularly with a wise VP choice, someone young and promising, a leaning into the future: O'Rourke, Harris, Abrams, etc.
My other concern is repairing the damage that Trump and his enablers have done, getting us back on track. Joe Biden is the only candidate with foreign policy experience and right now our relationships in the world are in absolute tatters. He attended the birth of the ACA, has a genuine and intimate experience with healthcare and the tragedies that can affect families. His ability to speak to working people from his own background is no small thing. In addition, Biden is well-liked, even beloved by many voters, gaffes notwithstanding.
Biden will need to answer a number of questions and criticisms. Anyone with a long legacy has baggage. Some find this overly burdensome for a critical election such as 2020. Personally, I'm not that concerned because I think Joe Biden is perfectly capable of answering those criticisms and his years of public service more than outweigh the negatives.

(7,408 posts)automatically makes it suspect. Her candidate, that she actually worked for, will stand to benefit the most from taking Joe Biden out prior to announcing his candidacy. FoxNews and the Trump campaign are also loving this since Joe would sweep the floor with Trump in the general election. FoxNews and Trump need someone farther to the left to get the nomination so they can attack that in swing states, they are scared of the more moderate and experienced candidate like Joe.

(10,828 posts)However, being a loyal Democrat will be absolutely critical to winning in 2020, regardless of who our nominee is. We are not all going to get what we want out of the nomination process. Only one man or woman will win. Whoever that is will and should expect support from the Democratic electorate because all of these candidates are infinitely better than what we're dealing with now, an existential threat to our democratic Republic.
BTW, this is not 2016. Donald Trump has exposed himself as an arrogant and thoroughly corrupt individual. It's only the truly cult-like followers who refuse to see through the charade and the true damage the man and his enablers have done to the country and our standing in the world.
We cannot afford purity politics in 2020, not if we want to save the country. If you chose not to vote for Hillary Clinton in 2016 then you are partially responsible for Trump's wrinkled ass sitting in the WH right now. And if you're not a loyal Dem or an Indy who knows that Trump and his administration is absolutely toxic, then I fail to see why you're posting here in the first place.

I've pledged to listen to every candidate before I make a decision, and it's still early yet. For now I am leaning for Biden, but I like a few others including Kamala and Amy. The attacks on Biden bother me a little, but I believe he can handle this if anyone can. Joe has been around the block a few times. He has appeal for party regulars and many independents.

Because our vote in 2020 isn't just for a person; it's for the welfare and future of the country.

Like Russia and lgbt rights, African Americans vs systemic racism, Sanders supporters and the Clinton Foundation?
They seem to have won using very minor issues to cleve off tiny bits of the electorate. I worry that Biden's long service will not serve him well. I'll want to see how he handles these issues and their relevant groups. So far on this thread, all Ive heard are denials.
