Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumI'm not going to be a part of the smear machine that happens here every primary.
I'm not going to participate in the flavor of the day outrage,
I'm not going to point out the flaws I believe I see in your choice,
I'm not going to engage in conversations about previous votes or stances,
I'm not going to fight any of you about your choice.
I have something else to fight, and its the exact opposite of us.
Good luck to your candidate!
Eko.
p.s. at least, I'm going to try to do this.

(17,881 posts)The last go around was rough and I'll admit I got pulled into the rancor. Not this time. I'm undecided on all but one thing right now. And the one thing I'm completely sold on is supporting the Democratic candidate, whoever they might be.

So far this primary season, I have not noticed such favoritism.

I WILL SUPPORT AND WORK FOR THE NOMINEE OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY FOR POTUS 2020 AND FOR ALL FEDERAL, STATE, COUNTY AND LOCAL OFFICES IN THAT GENERAL ELECTION.
We must take our country back from the wingnuts!

(7,142 posts)My only criteria is picking someone is that they be tough as nails. I had it narrowed down to 3. Kamala Harris - former prosecutor, Tulsi Gabbard - former military, and Liz Warren who ran the CFPB. Looks like I will have to find someone other than Warren seeing as she is over 65.

(507 posts)2020 will be a watermark on how Democrats work together to take back our Country from the Wingnuts who've complete run roughshod over everything we've worked so hard for. I get sick every morning when I look at what the orange turd is doing. And to see those I call 'family' try and tarnish those that simply want a better life here in the United States, when our Ancestors arrived on boats in the 1800's, unable to speak the language, without a job, with nothing more than the clothes on their backs, but now want to turn away those that just would want the same? I ashamed at some of the posts I see on Social Media by some of my 'family' and 'friends' Though, I am PROUD of relative strangers standing up for what they believe to be right for everyone, not just the few.
I certainly hope, more folks will be more like Plaid Shirt Guy and pay attention to the orange boob, as he speaks, and realize what complete and total horseshit he utters.
We must all decide on our own who we like in the Primaries, but once the General Election is here, VOTE BLUE! no matter WHO!

(37,648 posts)If you have something to offer, that you think might be a hindrance to someone getting elected in the general election, you might want to consider sharing.
But you're right...supporters of that candidate never take it well. Rose colored glasses and all.
I want to know everything, good and bad. I can decide for myself what's important and what I agree with. But I need things pointed out, since almost all the candidates are unknown to me and the general public.

(7,243 posts)People can do what they want to do, I have stated what I am going to do. If you have a problem with that then that is your problem not mine. I also don't have the hubris to decide what might be a hindrance to someone getting elected in the GE.
Keep on keeponing.

(37,648 posts)Imagine a democracy where people walked around refusing to point out why one candidate is better than another. We don't say anything to anyone, and just file in without a word on election day & vote, then quietly leave, making sure not to say anything about the candidates, should someone take offense.
It's not called hubris. It's called intelligent discussion about what is best for the party, the country, and winning the election. It's what politics is all about. One wonders why one would be part of a democratic political discussion group, if one doesn't want to discuss politics. It's a good thing to discuss the positives and negatives of the various candidates. That's what it's all about.

(7,243 posts)Exactly what I am asking for is intelligent discussion for what is best, not discussions where we nit pick on things that really don't matter in the long run. Do what you want though.
Thanks,
Eko

(37,648 posts)Some people get too personal and are disrespectful in their tone, when criticizing or expressing a viewpoint. But generally, it's a good thing to discuss the pros and cons of the different candidates.
People who haven't been through many elections or aren't used to it, may be overly sensitive and perceive anything other than a rah-rah as a "smear." But it's not. As long as it's a legitimate point and not disrespectful.
Example: Pointing out that Biden's age may be a problem is not a smear. It's acknowledging what the poster thinks is a problem. Do others agree or disagree? Let's see if it's generally a problem among us, the most faithful. If it is, then it may really be a problem with voters, who are less loyal to the Democrats. I think that's a healthy discussion.
(Disclaimer: Biden is on my short list, so I use him just as an example. Although I do think his age goes on the "cons" column. He also has plenty of things in the "pros" column.)
Every candidate has cons. Every candidate has pros.

(307 posts)Unless I'm forced to weigh in where I see someone is being unfairly slammed or someone is being unfairly elevated here, I'm going to keep silent. We all have ideas of whom we support, and we all have good reasons for that. I'll speak up for my candidate when the time is right, but I will respect that others may have other ideas. And that we all have the same goal--saving our country and, likely, our civilization, from its greatest threat so far in history. Then, when our party has its nominee, I will get behind that person whoever it is (unless, perhaps, it's someone like Devin Nunes or Ted Cruz) to thwart the re-election of the worst president in history.

I want to know all the good things about all of them and why they are best qualified to beat Trump. I'm not interested in gossip, outrage, or various slams on good people that could very well be the work product of people with other agendas. I will hide posts that piss on good Democrats.
