Bernie Holds Double-Digit Lead Over 2020 Rivals Among Young Democratic Voters: Poll

A new national poll of young Democratic voters released Monday shows Sen. Bernie Sanders leading the crowded 2020 field with a double-digit lead over the second most popular candidate, Joe Biden.

According to the survey by the Institute of Politics (IOP) at the Harvard Kennedy School, the U.S. senator from Vermont is preferred by 31 percent of likely Democratic primary voters between the ages of 18 and 29 years old.

"Proving that young voters see more than age, it's notable that the candidates with the most experience in government service are leading a diverse field at this early stage in the process," said John Della Volpe, IOP's director of polling.

"Compared to this point in the last presidential cycle," he added, "young Democratic voters are more engaged and likely to have an even greater impact in choosing their party's nominee."

I'm assuming it's within the MOE - or close to it. Not bad - especially when you compare it to 2016's numbers for Bernie.

In this poll, Bernie led Clinton 68-26 among voters under 24.

That could prove problematic for Bernie since I'm not sure where is next built-in advantage will be against Biden. Certainly not minority voters or even working class voters.

Think of how problematic it would be if he were behind Biden!

What other problems can we cite for Bernie???

Ok, true - plenty of other threads for that.

and aren't really progressives. So looks to me like a third or so wanting a strong progressive, a third or so just fine with a moderate, and a third or so spread out all over the place.

Not really an indication that Sanders is on the way to victory...particularly since younger voters are still the smallest block of voters historically when sorting by age.

in size, turnout and impact.

Of course this is early in the marathon race insofar as polls are concerned but having said that I view Bernie's strong support among younger generations with a little more staying power credence as this isn't new.
