Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumI guess the sexist bias is unconscious, but it is sure as hell coloring some of the
opinions about the Buttigieg-Klobuchar dust-up. I am a 71 year old male and guys, why is it that when a man speaks with force and passion in strong support of a position he is called "strong" and "forceful" and "aggressive" but, when a woman does the same thing, she's called "mean" or "shrill" or "angry"?
Why is a man who pushes his viewpoint simply a "hard charger" or a "go getter" but a woman who does the same is a "bitch"?
This attitude offends me as a husband with sisters, a daughter and a granddaughter. I would be flat out pissed if I was a woman.

(1,997 posts)clearly showed signs of being ruffled. It is not sexists to say that, I think most honest people would agree. I'm not a Warren supporter (unless it comes to that) but I thought her aggressive moments were done quite well, and she is a woman too, but managed not to appear angry and spiteful.

(10,721 posts)I'd say Buttigieg was 4th and Klobuchar was not far behind at 5th. Warren did great. Sanders and Biden did fine.
Bloomberg is a disaster but we already knew that.

(4,484 posts)Klobuchar said she only voted for 30%, but the truth is she did the opposite. She actually voted for 2/3rds.
Here is a source: https://www.thedailybeast.com/amy-klobuchar-keeps-voting-for-trumps-horrific-judges
Since running, she's cooled off on voting for SOME of Trump's judges but is still voting for the majority.
What she should have said, instead of trying to misrepresent the facts is this: "I'm from a purple state and, unlike you, I understand the purple politics that will be required to win back the White House."
That answer would have been appropriate and would have flown in the face of Buttigieg's recent decrying of "purity tests."
Instead, she misrepresented facts.

(18,402 posts)And feminist AF. But I have qualms about Klobuchars temperament and her skewing of facts.
I saw it rather differently. Shes been beating up on Buttigieg since the first debate as inexperienced and too young and naive, and distorting his quotes (while plumping up her own resume). And the first time he finally punches back, people are appalled. Maybe theres a bit of reverse ageism going on here, or it could be a bit of unconscious homophobia?

(4,484 posts)"Ooo, I'm a Senator and you're a small town mayor." In some ways, it felt like she was trying to imply that made her opinions more valuable than his. That would be an argumentative fallacy. A form of appeal to authority.
If he'd been 10 years older, I doubt people would be all up in arms about how "condescending" he was.
I do think pushing her flub of the Mexican President's name was foolhardy, though. Everyone forgets names and going after her for it was just silly.
But, people on DU aren't saying it was foolhardy. Instead, they ALMOST sound like they want to say is "Respect your elders" or "Wait your turn" but substitute "condescending" instead because they know those other two phrases would be inexcusable.

(14,543 posts)First, its a debate, people are going to get hit.
EW and everyone else piled on Bloomberg.
Biden took repeated shots at Bernie.
Bernie took shots at pretty much everyone.
Fact is, AK has been digging Pete regularly in prior debates.
So, today, he exposed her glass jaw and worked it.
Poor AK ...
Its important to note she acted similarly when ANYONE even slightly questioned her.
End of the debate she put her head down down and quickly left the stage, stopping to only shake hands w EW, who has gone out of her way to defend her.
Frankly, not sure how she would do if it was her and 45 ...

And "anger" is not the same thing as "yelling" (typical Bernie) or being "forceful" (which I thought worked quite well for Warren last night).
