Caucuses need to go! Let people vote in closed Primaries!

(2,657 posts)Here in Arizona, instead of a "Primary", the state calls what we do in March a "Presidential Preference". Our Presidential Preference isn't even until March 17, but I sent in my early ballot last week. By the time March 17 rolls around, we should have a good portion of the ballots already completely processed. Since this process is controlled by our cities and counties, and since they have real, professional training, and real computerized "fill in the oval" scanning machines for one simple question...who each person wants for President...the whole thing is handled quickly and professionally. Plus, the fact that it is a primary and not a caucus means that more of the elderly and disabled can participate.
Primaries:
They are more democratic.
They are more accurate.
They are more professional.
They are much quicker.
If Iowa wants to keep their caucus because they are first and it is in their constitution, fine. Every other state should switch to a primary system. My mother has been a polling place supervisor for these primaries for years. She knows how professionally they are handled. Caucuses are 18th Century leftovers.
